Any thoughts on "The Last Enemy"? I've watched them all, and whereas the subject was fascinating and scary, somehow the series seemed to end in a rush. Or has it ended?
Regards,
HG

The Life and Death of Peter Sellers shown on BBC4.
Geoffrey Rush is simply brilliant in it.
A great film shown on one of the freeview channels. The offerings on terrestrial were so poor I can't even remember what they were.

It was very predictable and the killer obvious from the start, but I really enjoyed watching Lewis. A very well acted and produced load of old tosh.

Victim with the great Dirk Bogarde and Sylvia Syms, a great piece of cinema. looking forward to seeing Nobby's pictures on the location setting.

I've been enjoying Lewis also. I do wish the TV editor of the Radio times wouldn't bang on about how much she dislikes it ever single week it's on.

Great film. One of my favourites. Deals with a taboo subject very well and a film which helped to hasten the proposal of the Sexual Offences Bill of 1967 (thanks to Roy Jenkins). In 1971 he played a very sensitive role as Gustav von Aschenbach in Death in Venice by Thomas Mann.

With Lewis I think it's success is based on the role reversal. James is the Oxford educated Seargent, whilst Lewis is the wily old DI.
The pattern is exactly the same as Morse and is as immensely enjoyable.
The plots each week have been both interesting and different, with, for me
"Born of Fire "being the pick of the bunch.

Would Morse have tolerated CSI Jean Innocent?
He just about coped with CSI Strange in the form of James Grout, a similar real ale drinking pilgrim no doubt.

That's one of the reasons I like it .... Whateley and Fox are a good team and the role reversal aspect gives the opportunity for some good banter between them.

I was late in last night, so instead of the Haunting I watched Growing Pains(Hammer House of Horror), entertaining but,by,far the weakest of the series.

The Haunting, every bit as good as I had been told, chilling. Also Don't Nail Him Yet a Danger Man episode(John Drake was 80 yesterday). Not the strongest episode ever, but,as it features Craven Cottage, home of Fulham, well worth watching again.

I sat and watched ARRIVAL (Prisoner) on ITV4, with the thought that a whole new generation could now be discovering McGoohan's masterpiece...

Take A Girl Like You - directed by Jonathan Miller, written by George Melly (from the Kingsley Amis novel) and featuring John Bird and John Fortune (both of whom are excellent) in supporting roles - it's all a bit Radio 4 really.

Oliver Reed plays a womanising teacher who targets new colleague Hayley Mills as his latest conquest whilst louche chum Noel Harrison waits for it all to go wrong.

Ollie And Hayley are good and there's a lot of familiar faces (Sheila Hancock, Roald Lacey, Penelope Keith, Nerys Hughes) to be spotted but this must have seemed terribly dated in 1969 never mind nearly 40 years later.

I find Don't Nail Him Yet a really interesting episode, very brave for mainstream TV at the time (especially since I think it's only episode 2 of Danger Man) with its strong homosexual overtones in the relationship between the undercover Drake and John Frazer.

I watched Tiger in the Smoke (aka TITS). An excellent thriller from the talented Roy Baker, with good performances from Tony Wright and Charles Victor. Recommended.
