It's impressive that it was made in about 3 weeks but you have to admit it's a bit dull. Unless you're a big fan of stock footage of planes. A better P and P war film featuring Ralph Richardson is The Volunteer which is available on both the Criterion 49th Parallel(though you probably don't need another copy of that!) and this dvd of Fleet Air Arm films. Only half an hour but completely charming. One of the very best wartime short documentaries. Larry even gets a cameo.

Last night I watched Blind Corner from 1963 starring William Sylvester, Barbara Shelley, Alex Davion, Elizabeth Shepherd, Mark Eden, Ronnie Carroll, Frank Forsyth and Edward Evans. The film was directed was Lance Comfort.

William Sylvester plays Paul Gregory a song writer and composer who happens to be blind. He is married to an actress Anne played by the lovely Barbara Shelley. Anne has found herself a new lover and plots with her lover to do away with her husband. Nice twist ending to the story. The songs sung by Ronnie Carroll are quite catchy. Very good performances from William Sylvester and Barbara Shelley.

the avengers ,from venus with love ,crikey that was a tv show wasnt it ? diana rigg ,the sets ,the storylines ,diana rigg ,the episode i watched concerned some astronomers who were being seemingly vapourised whilst viewing the planet venus ,great special effects for 67 and featured the ford gt40 race car ,still being made today ,did i mention it had diana rigg in it as well ?

Mrs Smudge and I went out for pizza and then caught the opening day of IRON MAN with Robert Downey Jr.

Comics were my other big interest as a kid, so I was keen to see what they'd done to Tony Stark and I have to say that I was very impressed. It was a great fun film - the designing and testing of the Iron Man suit were excellent sequences and there's quite a lot of humour interwoven with it. Given all the flying sequences, this is a film best seen early in its run - whilst it's still on the largest of the multiplex screens. A good 'comeback' for Robert Downey Jr. and we look forward to Iron Man II...

Of course I made sure that we got home in time to see the first episode of THE INVISIBLES. Jenny Agutter looked as lovely as ever, but I thought that the programme itself was a little slow and rather overplayed Warren Clarke's character's slow-wittedness. If he'd truly been that dopey then presumably their career of crime would never have got off the ground to become so legendary. It shows promise, but they need to up the pace a bit...

Last night I watched the following:-

Escapement from 1958 released by Anglo Amalgamated and starring Rod Cameron, Mary Murphy, Meredith Edwards, Kay Callard, Peter Illing, Carl Jaffe, Carl Duering, Roberta Huby, Felix Felton, Alan Gifford, Carlo Borelli and Jacques Cey. Rod Cameron plays Jeff Keenan a insurance investigator investigating the death of several men and finds there's more to electronic dream therapy than meets the eye.

Following on was They Can't Hang Me from 1955 starring Terence Morgan, Yoland Donlan, Andre Morell, Urusla Howells, Reginald Beckwith, Anthony Oliver, Arnold Marle, Basil Dignam, John Horsley, Raymond Rollett, Guido Lorraine, Fred Johnson, Mark Dignam and Arthur Lovegrove. Terence Morgan plays Inspector Ralph Brown who is called in when a senior civil servant, Robert Pitt played by Andre Morell is condemned to hang for murder but he claims to have top secret security information in the hope that he will get a reprieve. A highly enjoyable thriller, Andre Morell is very good as the condemned man.

Lastly was Devil's Point from 1954 starring Richard Arlen, Greta Gynt, Donald Houston, Edwin Richfield, Michael Balfour, Mary Germaine, Anthony Vicars, Elspet Gray, Vincent Ball, Sydney Bromley and Howard Lang. Richard Arlen plays Captain John Martin who accidentally comes across a drug smuggling gang operating along the River Thames.

I was disappointed as well, going into a retirement block with a warden when they are all clearly still in their fifities didn't ring true. Jenny was woefully underused and like Smudge, Warren Clarkes character left me confused. The scenic location made me wary, could be a distraction from the poor plots and writing. I also wonder what the target audience is?

Chromophobia - a British version of Short Cuts, Magnolia et al with interlinking plot threads.

Written and directed by Martha Fiennes it doesn't really work due to the obviousness of its plot line, occasional miscasting (stand up Rhys Ifans) and muddled characterisation.

The excellent cast do good work: particularly Ralph Fiennes, Ian Holm, Harriet Walter and Penelope Cruz. It is Kristin Scott Thomas who stands out, she is staggeringly good, it's a pity the film doesn't match her performance.

A couple of episodes of the unfairly maligned BBC series The Borgias. A great series that is surely due for re-appraisal. A good, historically accurate script, fine performances from Oliver Cotton and Sir Alfred Burke, wonderful music by Georges Delerue and some stunning location photography make this one a winner for me.

One of the better british b-movies but then I enjoy all the british b-movies from the 40's, 50's and 60's.

Andre Morell was a fine actor and I enjoyed his performance in this film as well as The Hound of The Baskervilles alongside Peter Cushing in 1959, The Plague of Zombies from 1966, Shadow of The Cat from 1961 and, the TV version of 1984 from 1954 which also starred Peter Cushing and Yvonne Mitchell.

Solid but rather boring thriller ,Susan Hayward vehicle set in Liverpool.
Hayward is convicted of mercy killing and on release ends up looking
after her trial prosecuting lawyer (Peter Finch) wayward and possibly
schizophrenic wife( Diane Cilento)

Finch and Cilento are good but they have done better work elsewhere.
