That's right smudge, I have them all and the first one and some of later ones do not have the smoky bust (ooer) titles.

They were still playing the theme music at my local Odeon in the 80s before the film (along a with dreadful 70s 'Disco' Harry Lime theme)

Last night I watched the following:-

Trio from 1950 each story introduced by Somerset Maughan and starring Anne Crawford, Nigel Patrick, Kathleen Harrison, Jean Simmons, Michael Rennie, Roland Culver, Betty Ann Davies, Raymond Huntley, Andre Morell, James Hayter, Wilfrid Hyde White, Naunton Wayne, Lana Morris, Mary Merrall, John Laurie, Finlay Currie and Marjorie Fielding. 3 excellent stories with an exceptional cast of Britsh stalwarts.

Then lastly was Black Widow from 1951 released by Exclusive Films and starring Robert Ayres, Christine Nordern, Jennifer Jayne, Anthony Forwood, John Longden, John Harvey, Madoline Thomas and Reginald Dyson. Nicely told story of a wealthy amnesiac Mark Sherwin played by Robert Ayres who gradually regains his memory and remembers who was trying to murder him.

Watched Dark Of The Sun aka The Mercenaries starring Rod Taylor good adveture flick set in the Congo in 1960. A good later role for Kenneth More as the drunken doctor. An easy way to spend an hour and half.

Watched Witchcraft (1964) last night after looking for a copy for years. Not a classic but very well put together by Don Sharp. Quite atmospheric and the only slight criticism I have is Lon Chaney's lumbering presence did the film few favours but fortunately he was barely in it. Great DVD transfer. Anyone else seen it as I would be interested in what they made of it.
Thats the joke that killed the Music Hall !

Last night I watched Passport to Treason from 1956 starring Rod Cameron, Lois Maxwell, Clifford Evans, Douglas Wilmer, Marianne Stone, Peter Illing, John Colicos, Ballard Berkeley, Trevor Reid, Barbara Burke, Hal Osmond, Andrew Faulds and Derek Sydney.

Rod Cameron plays Mike O'Kelly a Private Investigator, a close friend of his and fellow investigator has been murdered. It all ties in with a forged passport racket and a secret society organisation out for world dominiation. An entertaining b-film. Nice to see Marianne Stone in a featured role as Mike O'Kelly's Secretary Miss Jones who he nicknames 'Jonesy'. Very good supporting cast and use of London locations.

Francis Matthews was the voice behind Captain Scarlet.

Coincidence! So did we here at Smudge Towers....

Somebody said that this film hadn't been screened on TV since the 60s, but on viewing I recognised it as a film I've had on VHS for years. I would echo your comments Joe, esp. the nice fact that we get Marianne in a featured role for once.

We also saw COME FLY WITH ME - one of those glossy travelogue-type movies produced from MGM British in the 60s; in the vein of THE VIPS and THE YELLOW ROLLS-ROYCE.

An entertaining piece of fluff, most notable for a supporting cast of British regulars (Wattis, Colouris, Malandrinos et al.) and the last cinema appearance of Dolores Hart. She is now, apparently, the only Nun eligible to vote on AMPAS - she still reviews films...(see her IMDb entry).

I'd never seen Passport To Treason before, after all the hassles of it being shown on Movies 4 Men a while back, it was nice to see that they have now sorted out the problem and have screened the film from the beginning. Entertaining british b-movie, I hope Movies 4 Men screen some more in the future.

I saw this years ago and remembered it being very good. I believe Jack hedley was in it and the scene where the lady is driving here car is quite spooky.

And if you want to see Caine in an even better performance, seek out his (relatively) recent film, THE STATEMENT. He's brilliant in it - it was on TV a few weeks ago...

I watched Major Barbara- the one with Wendy Hiller, Rex Harrison, Robert Morley, Sybil Thorndike, Robert Newton and bit parts from Miles Malleson, Stanley Holloway, Felix Aylmer, OB Clarence, Kathleen Harrison. Great stuff!
