Faces in the Dark - a rather good suspense thriller with John Gregson and Mai Zetterling.
Also Smokescreen - Peter Vaughn tracks down the baddies in a very entertaining Butcher's second feature. |

Last night I watched Mumsy, Nanny, Sonny & Girly from 1969, directed by Freddie Francis and starring the elegant Ursula Howells, Vanessa Howard, Michael Bryant, Howard Trevor, Pat Heywood, Imogen Hassall, Michael Ripper, Robert Swann and Hugh Armstrong. A bizarre black comedy/horror film whereby Girly played by Vanessa Howard and Sonny played by Howard Trevor lure men back to their old rambling house whereby they are forced to participate in elaborate role-playing games in which they are the perfect family; those who refuse or attempt escape are ritualistically murdered.
Following on was a German Edgar Wallace film from 1967 called The Monk with the Whip starring Joachim Fuchsberger, Uschi Glas, Gritt Boettcher, Ilse Page, Jan Hendricks, Harry Riebauer, Konard Georg, Tilly Launstein, Siegfried Schürenberg, Suzanne Roquette, Gunter Meisner, Claus Holm and Ewa Strömberg. An interesting story. I have found these German Edgar Wallace films to be quite enjoyable. |

The Witches - Nigel Kneale scripted Hammer film which looks like no other film from that studio lacking the 'house' style. IIRC it is the only Hammer film directed by Cyril Frankel which might explain why it had the look of an ATV 60s series (Frankel dircted alot of them). It was fairly engrossing and benefitted from a strong leading performance from Joan Fontaine, who later bad-mouthed the film and everyone connected with it in her memoirs.

Last night I watched the following 13 East Street from 1952 starring Patrick Holt, Robert Ayres, Sandra Dorne, Sonia Holm, Dora Bryan, Michael Balfour, Michael Brennan, Michael Ward, and Hector MacGregor. Patrick Holt plays Inspector Gerard Blake, who infiltrates a gang who deal in stolen goods. Quite an entertaining b-film.
Following on was another German film entitled The Mark of The Tortoise from 1964, although it's been marketed as an Edgar Wallace film, it stars the husky voiced Hildegard Knef, Gotz George, Carl lange, Richard Munch, Heinz Reincke, Pinkas Braun, Jan Hendriks, Klaus Kinski, Adelheid Seeck, Hans Clarin and Hans Paetsch. The story concerns a gang of blackmailers led by a crippled mastermind who is motivated by misanthropy. A very good enjoyable film which moves at a fast pace, the hugely talented Hildegard Knef plays the character of Lorelli to icy-cool, seductive perfection. |

Another episode of The Baron,( late night TV). This one not too good.
Lee Montague & Larry Taylor as two former Japanese soldiers.!: ![]() Then a big improvement with the dashing Terence Morgan and crew in Sir Francis Drake. This episode featured amongst others, the late Bob Grant!(Jack from On the Buses)! |

The Lamp in Assassin Mews (1962) DVD-R. Rather fun Danziger where elderly siblings Ian Fleming (no not that one) and Amy Dalby rather steal the film as salesman hating residents in the Mews. Francis Matthews stars as the leader of the council with ideas about modernising the Borough, leading to conflict with his dangerous neighbours.
