Those Were the Days from 1933 , Hay & John Mills together!

Wasn't sure what to expect but was really enjoyable.

My Learned Friend, more good stuff.

So watched Hay's first & last film.

Asylum (1972), only intended to watch a few minutes of this but of course was completely hooked and watched it through yet again. One of the best of the Amicus horror films, with a superb cast of familiar favourites. Well acted and if the stories are a bit potty it really doesn’t matter in the least

Escape from Broadmoor (1948)

Minor supernatural thriller written and directed by John Gilling. Notable for John Le Mesurier playing a murderous villain in what was perhaps his film debut.

Hi there.

Going off at a slight tangent, does anyone remember the episode of Brian Clemens' Thriller where Le Mesurier turned out to be a serial killer? Good episode from a generally fine show from what I remember.

Last night I watched (twice in fact) Freddie Francis's The Skull with Cushing, Lee, Patrick Wymark and the very sexy Jill Bennet (sadly underused as she was in most of her films). Rather good I thought particularly the fact that Francis shot the majority with dialogue, concentrating instead on Elisabeth Lutyens' great music score, exaggerated sound effects and Peter Cushings terrified face to carry the story. Great art direction as well. Surely this and The Psychopath must be due for a letterboxed DVD release. The print I had was OK - good strong colour, etc but it really needed to be seen in the scope format to appreciate it fully. Still, I am working on a review of it. Anyone seen this recently?

Cheers.

Iain

I must say that I always enjoy Elisabeth Lutyens' scoring - she had a very distinctive style. I also like the films scores of Richard Rodney Bennett. I wish these were available on CDs.

The Saint's Vacation.

Daft & only lasts an hour but still very watchable.

Over the last few day's,
six eps of the lotus eaters, with ian hendry and wanda ventham, maurice denham,so far enjoyable if slightly strange,i think hendrys alchoholism is showing but doesn't affect his performance, the back story intrigue keeps it going so far.

Tales from the Crypt, and Asylum (nice understated performance by jefferey bayldon), two of me faves,i havn't seen for a long time.

cheers Ollie.

Of late, several episodes of 'Classic' CROSSROADS....

When suffering them as a kid, little did I realise that this proto LAST OF THE SUMMER WINE was such a retirement home for former British film characters actors. Scoff as ye may, it was nice to see the late Sandor Eles pulling in the reins as Maitre D' Mr. Paul, and dogged detective Patrick Jordan. And just to think that I actually MET Alan Gifford o/s ATV one wintry afternoon....
