Yes that's right
And whenever we buy a P&P film we always ask what the P&P is!

The hint was in the sig. P&P in connection with British films usually means Powell & Pressburger.
It's even worse when we use the abbreviations for all their films like AMOLAD, IKWIG & BN.
See the Powell & Pressburger pages for explanations of those.

I've just tried a Google for just P&P and it's on the third page, not at all bad as there are so many other uses for those initials.

How is the Tales of hoffman audio commentary? I thought Criterion would have sourced that Australian documentary made in 1990, 'Tales of Helpmann' or gone for a Chris Challis / Ian Christie / Moira Shearer audio commentary.

They're re-using the one they did for the laserdisk with Martin Scorsese & Bruce Eder. It's very good of course, but I've heard it before.

The Tales of Helpmann documentary is very good - but it is just about Bobby Helpmann.

I've watched some absolute little belters over the last couple of nights.

I recently noticed that someone on this forum has listed the rarely seen 'Don't Talk to Strange Men' (1962) as their favourite film. Inspired by this, I dug it out for a re-visit.
The film centres around Jean (Christina Gregg), a young girl who, every day, catches Dandy Nicholls' bus to work in Conrad Phillips' pub. One day, shes hears the phone ringing in the call box near the bus stop and answers it. She has a conversation with the caller, and is flattered by his attentions. Over the course of a few days the calls continue and she becomes more and more involved, and agrees to meet him; much to the disdain of her younger sister.
Needless to say, loves young dream doen't run true to course.
An unusual, and slightly off beat film, which works well.

The Bank Raiders (1958)
An absolute gem, Peter Reynolds gets in on Sydney Tafler's bank robbery. With Arthur Mullard playing Tafler's sidekick; they really don't stand a chance. Reynolds' character draws himself to the attention of the Police by flashing his money around. Tafler kidnaps the only witness; who's boyfriend doesn't seem too bothered; strangely.
Reynolds' landlady, played by Rose Hill and the compulsory dollybird (Sandra Dorne) [Marianne Stone was busy, I guess] get wind of what's going on, and want some of the lolly................

Violent Moment (1958)
Another gem, but a bit of a slow starter.
Lyndon Brook murders Jane Hylton when she has her child; to whom he has become attached; adopted.
He does a runner, the police can't find him; conveneiently, they don't seem to fall over themselves trying; and makes a new life for himself working for Rupert Davies firm and eventually becomes a partner.
He is about to make his life complete by marrying Jill Browne, when his past comes back to haunt him.
As it's the 1960's, Moira Redmond makes a compulsory appearance as his bosses' wife, playing her stern, 30-something bunny boiler character.

Saw "Chronicles of Narnia" at our local small cinema last night - well put together, very like "Lord of the Rings " in some sequences, and had a little star in young Lucy. Fantastic New Zealand scenery.

Enjoyed it.

I Met a Murderer

Engaging chase thriller of a murderer on the run who hooks up with a caravaning female novelist. Mason assumes the writer doesn't know his identity but she's using their experiences together to secretly dradft a novel entitled 'I Met a Murderer.' As they near the South coast the two become closer but the police net tightens.

Roy Kellion's direction seesaw's between clunky and picturesque and the editing leaves something to be desired but the storyline and Mason's acting more than compensate. Kellino made one final mistake in casting Mason, during filming his wife and the actor fell in love and Pam Kellino was soon Mrs Mason.

The Ghosts of Berkeley Square (1947)

I was lucky enough to catch most of this delight on BBC4 (obviously I managed to miss the start!). A quite charming and funny film with Robert Morley and Felix Aylmer in terrific form

For the last 30 years, I have been trying to find out about a film that has stuck in my mind for this long. I saw it on telly in the afternoon. It was an old black and white British film. it started off with father and young son playing in a park. The father subsequently gets accused of a murder he did not commit. His aliby was that he saw the person he was supposed to have murdered leaving a port by a ship. He said the ship was called the SS Chester. however there was no such ship. He went to jail for about 20 yers and came out a very different, bitter man. His son wanted to help prove his innocence and found out that the ship was called "SS Chichester" and the first 3 letters had been obscured thus invalidating his fathers aliby. Ring any bells?? Does any body know the film??
