Each to his own and all that so bring on the hate mail but I cannot abide those awful Rathbone/Bruce Sherlock Holmes films Whenever I viewed one the urge to sock dear old Nigel Bruce on the hooter was powerful indeed!.... and to jump up and down on Rathbone’s deerstalker. I suppose I should be charitable as they are American productions after all The Brett/Burke pairing is my favourite which is odd now because when I viewed them first time around I though David Burke far inferior to the later casting of Edward Hardwicke. Watching them all again recently and I have completely changed my opinion. Maybe I should try and watch a Rathbone/Bruce effort again Managed to miss the recent showing on BBC4 of Cushing/Stock will have to try and find a DVD, two excellent actors.

Latest viewing another enjoyable Edgar Wallace "Act of Murder" with John Carson and Anthony Bate.

I agree about them being awful - but I still find them quite fascinating in a funny sort of way.

Which almost makes it understandable as an American interpretation of two very different English eccentrics.

Good Choice ! STRANGLER'S WEB and ACT OF MURDER were the instalments which originally got me hooked into MOEW

ACT remains in my top 5 !

Indeed I actually found the ending to "Act" quite a shock as it was so unexpected! The story was unusual and very effectively done. Thank heavens for this forum to be able to enjoy such gems

I agree. Anthony Bate's endgame is marvellously played - both in the sense of the act itself, and the acting. Still stunning, even now.

Absolutely. Probably the finest ending to any EW, IMO

A bit of a cop-out by the secretary who claimed (in the epilogue) to have known nothing of the holocaust.
But a great drama.

99% of the time I would agree with you, in general about Germans claiming not to have known.......but two things to remember about this girl in particular. In 1945 she was 19....so during the nazi's rise to power, Kristallnacht, and so on, she would have been in the equivalent of Junior school. As the nazi's had an effective control on the media from that point, how could she have known much..the german people (in common with the rest of the world) were told the Jews were being resettled...and by the time she does become part of Hitler's staff, the Reich was a few square miles of Greater Berlin; the death camps would have been liberated by then. She would have had no inside information of them...

Bit of a Bay Window, what??

Corny, wooden acting, ludicrous plots, but I enjoy it (nonwithstanding Marta Kirsten as Judy)

This was difficulty that I had withh Len Deighton's SS/G.B.I could not believe that the so called Final Solution
could be kept secret for years,But of course in a regime that controls information anything is possible.
