The first two episodes of the final series of Public Eye. in #1 Marker gets involved in trying to track down a missing witness and gets duffed up for his trouble. In #2 he tries to help a single mum but finds himself ill at ease with his own circumstances. Incredible acting from Alfred Burke and some cracking writing continue to keep this a cut above most other dramas. Excellent viewing and highly recommended.

The Good German
Soderbergh's homage to the post-war b&w noirs. Whilst he manages to capture the era on screen authentically. the story-framing never allows the characters to develop and as a result I never really engaged with the film.

Elizabeth: The Golden Age

Cate Blanchett was terrific but on the whole the film wasn't. Too much mucking around with history for my liking. It looks splendid though.

A great war film, very under rated I feel!

Excellent episode that one .... Frank Wolff was a very interesting actor.

Awesome film and shamefully neglected in favour of all the 1950s prisoner of war dramas that gave the impression everyone was digging tunnels 24/7 rather than just surviving from day to day.

After a long day of DVD indexing/working I flopped out last thing last night in front of the very first episode of the old Thames TV sitcom AND MOTHER MAKES THREE...

Now this is one of the things I distinctly remember as being whole family viewing at the time of transmission and as soon as that familiar music started the years rolled back; I was a nipper again, sprawled in front of the chunky old B&W set, being told off for getting too close to the screen! A whole host of memories came back all at once.

Back in 2008 I enjoyed the episode - predominantly for that fuzzy nostalgia feeling - but couldn't believe how 'slight' it was, particularly for a series opening. Whilst I still regard it with much affection, I am surprised that this was (even then) peak-time viewing. Perhaps it will pick up if I watch a few more...

Watched "Hennessey" with Rod Steiger, Richard Johnson etc.

Enjoyable but not brillant, being a fan of Richard Johnson ( who also wrote the story ) was disappointed with his role/performance.

Still a good way to spend some time on a wet Bank Holiday !

It was David Parfitt (the little dark one), he was one of the producers of Shakespeare In Love. He also won awards for producing The Madness of King George.

He wasn't a bad actor - he did minor parts with Kenneth Branagh's Renaissance but I guess producing Gwyneth Paltrow films is more profitable than spear carrying.
