Episode 1 of the ITC TV series GHOST SQUAD (as mentioned elsewhere in the forum) entitled 'Hong Kong Story'. I felt this one was a little slow and not a great choice for a series opener. Fortunately I know there are better stories down the line, so I shall persist with it...

I've got the Smashing Time soundtrack as a set of MP3 files, if you're interested.

Cheers,

Last night I watched the film This Happy Family (1952) with Stanley Holloway & Kathleen Harrison (Mr & Mrs Lord), who own a shop in the middle of where where the Festival of Britain site is being built. A highly enjoyable comical film. Best of all was Dandy Nichols who played Kathleen Harrison's sister Ada.

Not one I know. Is it in any way a follow up to This Happy Breed with Stanley Holloway as the patriarch, showing the lives of a family at the time?
Or is it more like Passport to Pimlico with Stanley Holloway leading the fight for the little man against the system (with Naunton Wayne as the Man from the Ministry)?

THE LADY KILLERS (1955). For the 3rd straight year, this film produces sell-outs, and for the third straight time, standing in front of the theatre produces unanimous digs and insults toward the recent Tom Hanks version.

It is heartening to hear the teenagers come out saying, "That was SOOO much better than the other one..."

Like Neil Armstrong once thought about saying, "That's a giant leap for audiencekind."

Is there a difference between a Ladykiller and a Lady Killer?

Didn't they use those as different titles on a TV series a while ago .... Lady Killers for ladies who kill and Ladykillers for people who kill ladies. Either way, not very nice people .

Bats.

"Boom boom a baby .... Banham Zoo .... Banana pants! Hahahaha"

Quite right, Bats.

Lady Killers was a 1980-81 series about murders who were women.

Have searched in vain for episodes of this series!

It's very heartening to hear the audience response to The Ladykillers, Christine. Hanks was very dismissive of the Ealing classic when promoting his version.

Start every day with a smile and get it over with.

I never rated Hanks as a comedy actor... though I often like him in dramatic roles. I hate his comedy acting... mind you I hate a lot of American comedy acting.

If I recall correctly he claimed to have never seen it. At the time I thought this was ****** to try and avoid inteviewers asking him to compare the two films.

Hate the guy with a passion so was well pleased he validated my loathing.

I also heard Hanks claim he'd never seen it, but I've heard from more reliable sources that this was his choice to protect himself from the obvious criticism this flop of a film created. Nothing, however, can protect himself from the ample criticism of his arrogance to believe he could out-do Alec Guinness, and this was yet another miserable failure (no one needs to endure THE MONEY PIT to recognize that Hanks will never ever be confused with Cary Grant either).

It's been many, many years since I've rated any of his work 'good' - maybe BIG? - which I think should have been his one Oscar performance if there were any.

I would give him better direction in film than he's received of late: one immediate piece of advice - do not do any remakes.

'Big' was one of the very very very few movies I've ever walked out of a cinema during. I couldn't stand it. I think I've only ever walked out on two movies... 'Big' and 'Event Horizon'.

I thought 'Big' was awful. I don't think Tom Hanks has ever given a performance worthy of an Oscar.

Sorry to differ with you Christine

Steve
It's more similar to Passport to Pimlico. Naunton Wayne plays a ministry official just as he did in Passport to Pimlico.
