The Day of the Jackal(1973)Hadn't seen it for several years. Purchased in HMV for £3.
I could never tire of watching this. Shot on location in London, Genoa, the South of France and Paris, the pace of this thriller is relentless. Michael Lonsdale and Tony Britton and are a two of an excellent supporting cast to Edward Fox in the lead role as a ruthless assassin. One of the best UK films of all time IMO.
Credited as British/French.

Zulu Dawn (1979)
Free copy that came in the Daily Mail some time ago.
Quite enjoyed it,though something seemed to being lacking despite the great cast.

Blind Corner (1963) DVD-R. This corker from Mancunian Films has a distinct Film Noir quality about it. Starring William Sylvester as a blind composer and Barbara Shelley as his wife, other thesps include Alex Davion and Mark Eden. Contains a nice plot twist which I certainly didn't see coming too which is always nice

Default Pool of London!
Watched my prize dvd courtesy of Bats! Ta Bats! Great film. I love the sight of London sans tower blocks and choked with traffic!

Now I just need to compile a list of similar titles. I've already ordered 'London Belongs to me' suggestions anyone.......................?

Swamp Fire with Johnny Weismuller and Buster Crabbe. Crabbe is surprisingly good as a villainous Cajun hunter in this tale of rivalry in the bayou. Weismuller demonstrates why (apart from this film) he never 'acted' outside the Tarzan and Jungle Jim films. He is terribly wooden and appears very uncomfortable in front of the camera. The film itself is quite entertaining and benefits from some good location filming.

Watched "Who Bombed Birmingham ? ", Granada's dramatisation of the Birmingham Six, excellent performance from John Hurt as the future MP Chris Mullin.
I'd forgotten that martin Shaw was also in this.

Try The Bells Go Down (1943) with Tommy Trinder, Finlay Currie and others. Drama about the Auxiliary Fire Service in the blitz. A companion piece to the more documentary style Fires Were Started (1943)

Is there any particular period in London's life that you're especially wanting to see?

Not a film suggestion but have you come across Charlotte Brunsdon's book "London in Cinema" (pub by the BFI)? It's an excellent read

Lady Hamilton 1941. Olivier & Leigh ! Top film, good performances &

brilliant (If Brief) sea battle scenes!! A question! The scene where Nelson gets fatally

shot, the French sniper looks incredibly like Torin Thatcher. Is it him??

The last part of the Beeb's Criminal Justice.

On the whole pretty good but I doubt that I would have stuck with it had it been transmitted weekly rather than nightly. Always more convincing as a reflection of the vagaries of the system than a whodunnit (which it flirted with at times).

The Holcroft Covenant (1985) DVD-R. Uninspired Nazi loot balderdash where even the usually reliable Michael Caine is seriously out of sorts. Mind you having to play opposite the toe curlingly awful acting of Victoria Tennant must have been a strain. The church scene where he and Tennant meet must rate as one of the worst ever

The Water Horse .... a marvellously enjoyable and enchanting kids film about a young boy who discovers the Loch Ness Monster. Highly recommended for kids and good fun for adults too.
