Peter Greenaway's A Zed And Two Naughts is probably the most difficult to understand film I've ever seen - trouble is on second viewing it made no more sense than it did first time around and I came to the conclusion that it perhaps there wasn't a great deal of sense to see. Which in a perverse kind of way I would find quite appealing were it not that Greenway so obviously wants us to be impressed by how clever he is. I like his stuff generally but even I lost patience with this one.

Peter Greenaway is one of my least favourite film directors - each film seems to be nastier than the last - but I do have a soft spot for A Zed and Two Noughts because some of the imagery is very striking (all those snails!), and I like the idea of an arthouse movie with Jim Davidson in it. However, as you say, at the end of the day it makes not the slightest bit of sense.

I agree - I've tried and tried Z00 but given up. However I do like The Cook etc and Prospero's Books. His collaborations with Nyman also help.

A film can't be crap if it has Jane Birkin in!
