Dunno if this is the appropriate place to post, but......
Has anyone every been to the little museum in Ullverston? I have been a few times. It's so cute! Anyway I`ve heard that they are expanding into a warehouse. I have to admit at the moment the museum is tiny, but quaint! The Laurel and Hardy Museum, Ulverston xx

Quaint is indeed the word, faginsgirl!
I have been there, and there's so much crammed into that tiny space (including a mini-cinema!) that there's hardly room for any visitors! (I'm not sure what they mean about extending in 1992 in your link.... presumably you've heard they are now moving again?) rgds Rob |

Hi Faginsgirl,
Thanks for the update here. I have been to the Museum 3 times over the years. I went in it's first year (early 1980's) after it has been opened by the creator (and curator!) the legendary late Bill Cubin, former Mayor of Ulverston. The last time I visited (4 years ago) it had been taken over by Bill's brother (I think). It is tiny. They have a lot of props and memorabilia crammed into a tiny space ; so it could do with putting into some chronological order and moving to a larger site. I hope that's what they meant by "warehouse" - that could also mean just storage...It goes down as the world's first Laurel and Hardy museum. As a keen fan of "The Boys" it was a visit I had to make. I have to agree about the level of enthusiasm being tangible!

A wonderful little corner of the country and a great place to pass a few hours for us L&H fans.
The cinema was the highlight and the guy who showed us round had an obvious love of the movies. Well worth a visit. |

I only found out recently that Stan Laurel was educated in Glasgow where I live, his dad owned the Metropole theatre here, and he once starred with oliver hardy later on in life at the old Brittania Theatre in Argyle st, Glasgow only found again in shut up part of a shop a few years ago, cant wait to get inside to see it Archie Leach also starred there, of course the one and only Cary Grant . just a wee bit of trivial for you. also I met Richard Widmark on my way to school around 1961 he was visitiing Bridgeton in Glasgow where his grandmother had once lived and its said he has a cousin in Govan area of Glasgow his double. he walked right past me, told everyone and no one believed me at the time.
