Default Keeping Mum?

Word has come through on our local "who's filming what and where" grapevine that filming is taking place at the moment at St.Just-in-Roseland(about 10mins from where I live). The film is reportedly called "Keeping Mum" and has acting on location at this time, Patrick Swayze?,Rownan Atkinson and Kristin Scott Thomas(back to her roots as she was born in Redruth, Cornwall.)Anyone know anything more about it? Regards, Decks.

Forget Hollywood, forget Pinewood, forget Bollywood - Falmouth is the new film capital of the world. Steven Spielberg is remaking Treasure Island in Falmouth, with Jethro playing Long John Silver;Baz Luhrmann is filming Pirates of Penzance;Wes Craven is remaking The Birds (forget Hitchcock's relocated version);now who can make Jamaica Inn? Rebecca? Whycliffe the Movie!
Great news that the land of my matriarchal fathers is getting some recognition, and I hope the film shares the beauty of Cornwall with the rest of the film world.
Did you Marge Simpson's Christmas broadcast to the nation and Lisa Simpson coming out with a placard saying FREE CORNWALL NOW!

Deserves what?. What was the point?. I bet the press mention how much weight she lost on the journey. Watch out for her new slimming book Ellen Macarthur's "Voyage to a New Her". How in just 71 days at a cost of £2,000,000 you can travel 6000 miles and get absolutely nowhere but lose 11 pounds.

What was the point?? What's the point of any endeavour when you push technology and human endurance and skill to the limit? It's how we advance as a species.

What's the weather like when you look out of your cave? wink

Mmm... I suppose the point is that certain humans strive to achieve something, now whether it's a boaty thing(which doesn't paticularly do it for me)or a new groundbreaking medicine it's the achievement that's the key....i.e. if film camera makers and/or cameramen hadn't strived to improve what they had to start with, we'd still be watching films made with hand-cranked cameras! Yes, there's the age-old argument that some things are best left alone, which is certainly true, but some things have to progress, otherwise we might start degrading back to anarchy(in the true sense). One of the unfortunate things about certain events is that profit seems to be the motivator, perhaps to the expense of the achievement, one of the less, imho, attractive human traits. Regards, Decks.

Well Steve if the weather is a bit cold and wet I can pop down to B&Q and get a Super Gale Force 10 UPVC Door or Window that will endure anything Mother Nature can throw at it. From thier new Ellen Macarthur DIY and Slimming Range.

Come on now Steve be honest she took advantage of technology she didn't invent any and she could have got more sleep if she had cut down on the mobile phone interviews. Do you remember the French bloke's name who held the record before and when he made it?. Can you remember the media fanfare when he crossed the line?. I can't.

I can remember the media fanfare in France when he did it. Oh what a suprise, there was no media fanfare in Britain about a Frenchman doing something well.
But then I used to do some offshore sailing in my youth so I know that it's far from easy at that level.

And even if she did take advantage of the technology, if it wasn't for her and others like her willing to take the risks then the technology wouldn't be invented.

That level of technology is a huge expense, hence all the sponsorship and interviews.

What useful technology is gained?. She's only been back a day and people are already flocking back to IKEA for thier flat-pack furniture.

Cool

A bloke rang up the Jeremy Vine show on Radio 2 on Tuesday afternoon, and while at first he wished Ellen Macarthur all the good fortune she deserves, then berated her by saying she had all the technology to help in her feat. Then added,in a couple of years time,he could probably do the same himself if he had the equipment. JV argued he couldn't and I agree.
Having technology is one thing, knowing how to use it is the second thing, but taking command of the situation when technology breaks down is another kettle of fish (which could be an option if your on board cooker breaks down ).
Technology, whilst an advantage, has no superiority over exprience, which ellen Macarthur has in abundance, along with a love for the sea to match her respect for it,and most important of all, determination, drive and guts. I for one would not like to climb a mast in high seas (I wouldn't like to climb one over a duck pond).
Sadly, she has had some knocking lately from critics, but I am proud of her and in amidst of overpaid, foul mouthed footballers (who are "heroes" because they chase a ball for ninety minutes),she is a star and true Brit.
Other than that - Hi,everybody!
