Wink I Love Pearl And Dean

Pearl and Dean are my all time favourite Cinema ad agency. I daresay most fourm members would agree.

When I first encoutured Pearl and Dean in my local ABC cinema in Merthyr Tydfil I thought that Pearl and Dean were the Christian names of a husband and wife team who presented cinema ads.

These were the days of the pillars a few years before the bongo and funny graphics and "Pah, Pah theme."

Anyone remember an ad Victor Borge did for Heneiken in the eighties when they showed the Pearl and Dean opening credits and the sound broke down and Borge's voice said,"Heneiken refrreshes the pah pah pahts other lagers cant reach.

You didnt get any of that with Rank Screen advertising.

[runs around flapping arms up at face like the 'rain of lasers']

down here in Oz we have Val Morgan in the same ecological niche. But the special 'fx' for the old
Pearl & Dean intro just can't be beat.

I found 'too orangey for crows' on youtube, which fair brought the memories flooding back.

There was a nice reference to P & D in an episode of Drop the Dead Donkey which I still have. The oily Gus Hedges is at a large newsbiz awards or social function at which he's continually being set up and ridiculed by a pair of wags named Pearl and Dean.

The music is called Asteroid. I won't argue about the lyrics, though.

Brilliant, a man after my own heart. When my wife and I got married we were driven to the reception in a vintage car, as I waved to my mates I sang the theme tune. Probably under the influence of the champagne.
