I am currently playing Pink Floyd's The Wall in my car (trying not to play an air guitar to Comfortably Numb whilst I am driving). I remember seeing the film version of the album starring Bob Geldof, and I wasn't very impressed with it and I haven't seen it since. Any comments?

I'm with you on this one. I was quite a fan of the Album and was lucky to get a ticket in the sixth row at Earl's Court when "The Floyd" did it live in 1980. The film put me off the whole thing and I find most of it unlistenable now (not that I've tried recently), "Comfortably Numb" being about the only exception.

I haven't seen it for years but my impression is that it was more like an overly long video rather than a film i.e some startling images but very disjointed over all. I think I saw it in the cinema once, on video once and then on TV. That was more than enough for me.

Those David Gilmour solo's are a sod unles you've got an automatic or are on a motorway!

Yeah, that's me. Billy Balthorpe, the man with no name.

It's a pity the only version of Comfortably Numb to get in the charts was by the Scissor Sisters.

I think they did this live at Versaiiles? I've seen the footage, very impressive!!

.....You couldn't hear it, if they were shooting at me with howitzers!

it's tough viewing (for example, the shaving of the eye brows scene) but has some of the most amazing animation in film history (by gerald scarfe). it also has unforgettable images such as the school children dropping into the educational sausage machine. i'd say revisit this film. the album was a historic concept album, and this was an integral part of the package.
