Gasp! Oh Rosalinda! and disaster mentioned in the same thread. *chokes on digestive biscuit*. Is there a thread for 'Masterpieces that only a complete philistine wouldn't appreciate'?

There might be a thread for "Even Genius filmmakers Have Off-Days" where Oh, Ros! is mentioned....and Escape for Victory for that matter...

I loved Casino Royale, so much so that I suspect I'm one of the few awaiting the 2-disc DVD special edition later this year with baited breath.

I like it for the same reason I like Escape to Athena it entertains me. It's entirely possible that I'm too easily pleased though...

I saw that when it came out and really enjoyed it. I'd love to see it again.

Not that bad IMHO and there are some bravura sequences in it - I think it just doesn't gel.

It didn't do DN's career much good like a lot of his 40s/50s British films.

Bonnie Prince Charlie - IMHO the worst of that collection (Niven and Hawkins knew while they were working on it that it was doomed)

Thats the joke that killed the Music Hall !

Charlie Chaplins "Countess From Hong Kong" was generally rgearded as a disaster and was of course his last film.

I had that listed as the worst film that Powell and/or Pressburger ever made - until I saw The Queen's Guards (1961)

If it had been made by anyone else then The Elusive Pimpernel would probably have been considered to be quite a good film. But they set the bar so high with their great films from 1943-48 that it's no wonder that their other films don't match up to that standard

A King in New York is just as bad and Chappers had clearly let his anger about Mcarthyism cloud his judgement. A very topical film in its day but a feeble one.

It is indeed a terrible film .... Brando looks even mored bored in this than he did in Desiree!
