Kent Walton was the producer of a few 'sex comedies' in the 70s ....

Kent Walton

I read Garfield's book when it came out ..... I don't think I would have wanted to eat at Les Kellett's cafe!

The Pallo Avengers episode was called 'Mandrake' ..... and I was wrong about Joe Robinson being in it .... the episode with that I recall was called 'November 5' in which JR played a sinister gym instructor.

Don't miss out on a chance to win a rare film in Bat-Quiz 13 closing date - 31/8/8.

The character was always referred to as "Mr. Heslop" (poss. Hislop) by "Fletch". He was noted for reminiscing about his sister-in-law in Sidcup.
Woo Hoo! I got one!

Yeah, that's me. Billy Balthorpe, the man with no name.

Brian Glover was in Porridge as well as dozens of other tv shows and films. He was a multi talented person.
I too have read The Wrestling. Its a great book.It is rather ironic that LES kellett was true to type ,a clown to the public but to his fellow professionals the most miserable individual with a vile temper .I would not have liked to have been in a dressing room if he was around.Yet his bout with Brian Glover(Leon Arras)is the funniest going and is available on DVD.

Steve Viedor has a couple of film credits: THE TOUCHABLES (co-written by Donald Cammell) and Derek Ford's KEEP IT UP, JACK.

Kendo Nagasaki used to live near to me in Wolverhampton, then a wrestling hotbed; spent many an enjoyable evening at the Civic Hall in my youth.

Best of ITV Wrestling. There are a couple of editions out.I think it is the first one but cant be sure.
Imagine having to burst Les's boils.
I recommend the book.So many of the wrestlers end up lame.Dennison,Torontos, and Marino and Kirk died shortly after fights.Their match fee was often little more than a tenner.

Kendo opened a pub/restaurant in Norfolk during the 80s. but IIRC it went bust after a couple of years.

When Kirk died his wife was interviewed in one of the papers. She stated quite openly she did the interview for the money because Kirk had no contract with any of the promoters ans was only paid £25 per bout. She revealed that Big Daddy, who Kirk had fought prior to his death, had a TV contract worth £250 per bout at the height of his fame. This was in the 80s so wrestlers certainly never earned the big bucks. IIRC Mick McManus became an antique dealer.

When you realise the audiences that wrestling attracted on tv it is a scandal that the men who wrestled got shortchanged. However the Crabtrees got their comeuppance.Thye purchased joint promotions from Corals i think,a couple of years before wresting came off ITV>After it went off tv they went to see Sky about relaunching it on their csports channel. When they asked in a meeting how much they would pay the Sky Man held out his hand with all 5 fingers showing.Crabtree thought he meant 5000 per hour. However it was made clear to him that thye would pay just 500 per hour.End of meeting and more or less the end of Crabtree as a promoter.
