More a case with what's right with Hugh I reckon!

I don't want to 'upset' any Fans of Hugh (which includes my own Sister!) but I find him a Rude, arrogant, greedy, self-centered, upper-class Prat!

Most 'Celebs' just let waiting Photographers take their pic and just leave it at that, but I've seen him (on TV) get into a 4x4 and deliberately drive up the kerb into bystanders, why couldn't he have just driven off?, plus on another occasion as he walked past waiting Journalists/Photographers at a Premiere he said to them "I hope your Children die of Cancer"........that type of remark is beyond the pale and quite out of order

Thanks Mark, so long as his acting ability is still in tact then that's okay by me.

If I were Hugh Grant, I'd be quite wary of journos too

I must stick up for Emma T in one important respect. I first saw her (called "Ezzer"), and Hugh Laurie ("Huzzer") and indeed Stephen Fry ("Lord Stezzer") in the early 1980s in a late night TV revue called 'Alfresco'. It was truly brilliant- along the lines of the best of Not the 9 O'clock News. It also had Siobhan Redmond. Emma Thompson was quite brilliant- she reminded me of the early Peter Sellers in her amazing talent for mimicry. Then they all went quiet for some time until she starred in the West End in 'Me and My Girl'- I think Hugh Laurie had a hand in the writing. Thereafter she did a one-woman TV show which was very disappointing. Then she and Branagh teamed up and the rest is history. But I will never forget her in Alfresco.

Stephen Fry wrote the new libretto for Me and My Girl. Al Fresco was good as was a radio show with much the same cast called Injury Time. She's a brilliant actress but of her sketch show Thompson we will not speak.

He plays himself in EVERY part he's ever played. The SAME bumbling, tongue-tied, upper-class twit.

Starring in The Lair of the White Worm gives Hugh Grant lifetime immunity from criticism as far as I'm concerned.

I am not a particular fan of HG, but that criticism can be directed at many actors, inc the likes of Clive Owen, Ewan MacGregor and Jude Law. HG was very different and very good in An Awfully Big Adventure.

You're welcome Scholes!........though I hope you weren't personally offended as it's obvious you're a fan of Hugh's!........I quite like an Actor who could be regarded as similar to Hugh, Colin Firth, though I admit I've not read any negative publicity about him!

I would like to ask a question here. Is it harder for an actor to do comedy rather than a dramatic role , I'm sure some of you on here can answer this ?

If Alfresco or Injury Time ever become available (e.g. on bit torrent, although I haven't managed this!) I hope someone will please let me know.

I regularly watched Alfresco when it was originally screened as a TV show and still recall some of the sketches - they were very funny. Does anyone have the sketch on tape where as POW's they plan to escape as tea chests?

Hugh Grant is merely irritating and grating but then looking back perhaps he isn't so different to some of the much loved actors from the 1950's and 60's comedies such as Ian Carmichael.

It can be ... but it depends on the individual roles. I wouldn't say that appearing in something like Run For Your Wife was particularly more difficult to do than the title role in King Lear.

However, some complex comedies, such as How The Other Half Loves by Alan Ayckbourn (which I have been in), are both technically and physically difficult.

The most difficult comedy I was in was Three Sisters by Chekov. What was most difficult about it was trying to remember that it was acomedy!
