I first saw it years ago and it was actually shown on BBC1 late at night a few weeks ago so I made a point of sitting up and watching it. I really enjoyed it's mix of sci-fi with cold war politics (shades of .... Invasion of the Body Snatchers and Killers From Space) and found the production design quite inventive.

The Haunted Strangler is another top quality effort.

Das Boot is in a class of its own, but I never tire of watching We Dive At Dawn - but then it is a John Mills film! Worst? has to be U571! I find Above Us The Waves to be very poignant - especially the "squeeze box" floating at the end. The latter film is based on true events.

We Dive at Dawn is a fab film!

I'll probably be booed off this thread, but I DO adore The Hunt for Red October.

How can you not love Connery's spot-on, dialect-perfect Russian accent? (and toop).

Despite their implausibilities,I enjoyed The Hunt For Red October and Crimson Tide and I never tire of watching either. Das Boot is the daddy of them alland to be honest I can't think of a submarine movie I didn't like. Even the historically inaccurate U571 has some merits.

DAS BOOT is a masterpiece...the "gold standard " of WWII submarine movies...indeed of all submarine movies!

WE DIVE AT DAWN - disturbing movie but realistic...no sugarcoating here!

I also liked THE ENEMY BELOW.... superb acting and quite gripping.
