Default Captured the moment.

What films do you guys feel 'Captures the moment' it's set in? I mean for me 'Scandal' hit the 60s bang on and 'Let Him Have it' did the early 50s to a tee.

Any suggestions?

.....You couldn't hear it, if they were shooting at me with howitzers!

The Long Good Friday .... the fag end of the 70s met the 80s head on. For Queen and Country captured very well the problems facing discarded serviceman and the bleakness of life in 80s housing estates. Defence of the Realm recreated the sense of paranoia that was prevalent in the 80s as well.

Most 70s Britfilms captured the feel of that decade very well .... lots of crap brown clothes and dazzling wallpaper!

Buster......plenty of Wolseley Police cars!

Vera Drake......not one imperfection there I reckon, 1950 to a tee!

The Krays......despite another early tube Station standing in for Bethnal Green which had recently been built!

It Always Rains on Sunday captured the bleakness of postwar Britain for the working classes perfectly.

Absolutely!.......Rationing, Refrigerators unaffordable for most, had to use the Milk up before it went 'on the turn', though I have the impression a pint of Beer was cheap, they all seem to be knocking it back in 'Kitchen sink' Movies!

It's not generally liked by many here but there's something very 80s about Rita, Sue and Bob Too; the naff white clothes, a Rover SD1, the bad disco, the contrasting bland new estate and old council flats.

Educating Rita. Julie Walters summed up the feeling of optimism of the early 80s after the misery of the late 70s. Suddenly anyone could have a go.

Totally agree. When the Craig/Bentley case hit the headlines in the fifties it was so shocking, I mean it was like gangsters in the films, but it was real. The film Let Him Have It was excellent. Scandal, again, was brilliant, and gave the feeling of the time.
When the Profumo Affair was happening, I was living in London, and remember seeing Miss Rice-Davis (Davies?) in Soho quite regularly. I never saw her famous friend Christine Keeler though. Before anyone jumps to any conclusions, I was stationed at Wellington barracks, so spent my youth in and around Soho and the West End. I remember it well because Mr profumo was Minister for War, as they were called then. The film was very true to life.

BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR...YOU MAY GET IT!

get carter certainly does capture the moment for me ,i remember when newcastle and gateshead looked like that in the early 70s . its a film that wins on all levels for me ,not only a superior gangster / thriller film but also conjures up early childhood memories

I agree! I thought it was very evocative of the period it was depicting maybe people don't like it here because they remember just too vividly that they used to dress just the same and go to the dodgy discos

Of course I was way to cool and jet set - so I have no problems if this unexpectedly appears on the TV

Barney Platts-Mills under appreciated "Bronco Bullfrog' (1970) completely captures the East London "suedehead' moment.
