As a Bolton fan I'd also point out that ex-Wanderer Owen Coyle also (apparently!) appeared in "A Shot at Glory".
We also had Jeff Chandler playing for us in the 80s, but unfortunately it was a different one

Wrestler Ian "Bully Boy" Muir, doyen of dozens of World of Sport tea-time appearances, was the giant with the ship on his head in Time Bandits.
Obscure tv-wise, well according to imdb dartsman Eric Bristow appeared in an episode of "Never the Twain", miler Steve Cram appeared in but one episode of Spender, while Kojak lookalike Olympic swimming gold medalist Duncan Goodhew appeared in "I'Lovett". Apparently. Three big sporting names, but I'll leave to decide which of the shows was the most obscure.
