Default Scottish comedy film gems list

As an avid fan of British comedy I have recently added Scottish-based comedies and would like to know if anyone has any recommendations for me?

I have the usual suspects of Gregory's Girl and other Bill Forsyth gems but what others should I seek out?

Well, if you fastforward through the bits with the annoying Scots, it's very good...

'The Girl in the Picture' is a pretty good comedy with John Gordon Sinclair.

Default Scots comedy

LAXDALE HALL has my vote. Greatly prefer it to WHISKY GALORE. When the Men from the Ministry, Fulton Mackay, Raymond Huntley and Sebastian Shaw, are on the train hurtling towards the border, Shaw observes something like, ' Ah! What wonderful air - I can almost smell the heather. I wonder where we are?", to which a passing attendant says, "Just coming into Crewe, Sir".

A more modern "gem" is Down Among the Big Boys.

It's a TV film rather than a cinema release but well worth a watch. Available on DVD.

Cotton Queen with will Fyffe and Hoots Mon with Max Miller and Florence Desmond. This later film highlights the difference in sense of humour between Enland and scotland.Showing what a graveyard for English comedians the Glasgow empire was reputd to be.

What about
THAT SINKING FEELING
RESTLESS NATIVES
and anything else made by Bill Forsyth?

Tom Conti and Helen Mirren in HEAVENLY PURSUITS is neglected as a film.
The series TAKING OVER THE ASYLUM with a very young David Tennant amongst others.

All funny, all Scottish
