Default The Caretaker

I loved the 1964 fiilm adaptation of Pinters play. It was marvelous to see Donald Pleasance cast against type.

I agree.

The play/film also contains one of my very favourite quotations in all literature.
'Them bastards at the monastery let me down again....You know what that bastard monk said to me?...Piss off, he said to me.' Not altogether sure why I like it so much: says something about the unpredictability of life.

Incidentally, I think Pinter himself briefly appears in the film as a passer-by in the street.

The play made him. I saw him in a revival directed by Pinter himself in '91 and he was superb and if anything even better.
