That one is a favourite of mine ... Robert Ryan is excellent!

Yes quite right.
I was going to double bill it with Paths of Glory, but it was on so late, I decided to record it instead.

Not yet - but I will in due course.

I recently purchased, after a long search, a box set of Margaret Rutherford as Miss Marple.

The four films in the box set are:

Murder At The Gallop.
Murder Most Foul.
Murder Ahoy.
Murder She Said.

Voices (1973) DVD-R. Rather good psychological horror film which sees troubled couple David Hemmings and Gayle Hunnicutt pop off for a quiet weekend. Maybe a tad repetitive in the central part of the film, but the conclusion is shocking and extremely effective.

Just watched " I Accuse !", Jose Ferrer directs and stars in this retelling of the Dreyfus case. A good version of this classic miscarriage of justice story.

For me though Ferrer is outshone by many of his co stars : Leo Genn, David Farrar, Donald Wolfit and IMHO the best of the lot Anton Walbrook as the true villain Major Esterhazy.

The Man Inside (1958) DVD-R. Excellent thriller starring Nigel Patrick, Jack Palance and Anita Ekberg, a surprising amount of location work adds spice to the proceedings. The supporting cast includes old favourites Sid James, Donald Pleasance, Eric Pohlmann and Alfred Burke. Patrick must surely be one of our most underrated performers has he ever given a bad performance?

If you do not mind me asking EHV where did you finally find it?

I wanted to purchase that set a while ago. It is supposed to have been released over here but I have not been able to find it yet.

Dave.

La Vie en Rose starring the luminous Marion Cotillard as Edith Piaf.

Hardly groundbreaking stuff but solidly entertaining with lashing of melodrama throughout and marvellous songs.

My only gripe is I would have liked to see Edith during the war (as opinions vary about her) but it steers well clear of that.

Normally steer well clear of showbiz biography films but was very pleasantly surprised by La Vie en Rose although as you say what she did or didn't do during the war was glossed over.

Fab songs too

Default More Tommy Trinder

Champange Charlie 1944 , Save a Little Sunshine 1939

Save a little Sunshine 1939

Save........ is very stagey and unfortunately looks very dated though made just a year before Tommy found film success, lacked an Ealing touch too.

Champagne Charlie 1944,

Riotous true(dramatic license in evidence) tale of George Leybourne/Joe Saunders/Champagne Charlie
(Tommy) and his rival The Great Vance (Stanley Holloway) as singing stars of Victorian music hall, with a great turns by Tommy and Stanley ,especially a pistols at dawn scene.
Sterling support from Betty Warren and a young Jean Kent and even younger Harry Fowler.

Tomorrow at ten 1964 John Gregson, Robert Shaw A worthwhile watch but not an edge of the seat thriller .
Shaw was very good ,as the Brooding and pensive Kidnapper ,with a good supporting cast ,including a very spivvy looking william Hartnell ,and an appearance by Harry Fowler ,who was also to be seen in my afternoons viewing

Ladies who do great cast in this ,Peggy Mount , Robert Morley , Harry H Corbett ,Jon Pertwee .A really enjoyable comedy

I May be getting older ,but I refuse to grow up
