A new episode of Midsomer Murders followed by West Brom v. Aston Villa live and then Chelsea v. Man.U also live.

I do like the early Premier League kick-offs as it means I can get to bed earlier.
Last night I only had to stay up to 1.00 am.

Dave.

Watched " A Terrible Beauty " set during WWII and concerning the IRA'a attempts to sabotage the British war effort and aid a Nazi invasion of Great Britian, directed by Hollywood veteran Tay Garnett and starring Robert Mitchum, Richard Harris, Anne Heywood and just about every Irish charactor actor I'd ever heard of !

A good story only marred by Mr Mitchum's constantly bemused look and varying Oirish accent

Watched Paul Rotha's 1958 B movie " Cat and Mouse " starring Lee Patterson and Ann Sears in a tale of blackmail and kidnap. For approximately 60% of the running time the film is essentailly a two hander between Messrs Patterson and Sears.

Co-written by John Creasey.

Good entertainment

Innocents in Paris1952

Alistair Sim, Margaret Rutherford, Ronald Shiner, Claire Bloom.

Despite the cast, I found this a bit of a disappointment. Not much of a plot just

a series of flimsy escapades. Claire Bloom does look terrific though!

Last night's viewing consisted of Park Plaza 605 from 1953 starring Tom Conway, Eva Bartok, Joy Shelton, Anton Diffring, Carl Jaffe, Frederick Schiller, Sid James, Richard Wattis, Robert Adair, Michael Balfour, Terence Alexander, Edwin Richfield, Martin Boddey, Sam Kydd and Richard Marner.

Tom Conway plays American private detective Norman Conquest who finds himself involved in tracking down some stolen diamonds which involves a gang of communists and a gang Nazi sympathisers.

An enjoyable britis b-film with Tom Conway a delight as is Eva Bartok who manages to hoodwink him.

Lastly was The Brothers from 1947 starring Patricia Roc, Duncan macrae, Maxwell Reed, Finlay Currie, Will Fyffe, John Laurie, Andrew Crawford, Morland Graham, Megs Jenkins, James Woodburn and David McAllister.

Patricia Roc plays Mary Lawson played by the lovely Patricia Roc plays an orphan who goes to work as a Servant for the Macrae family headed by Finlay Currie who plays Hector Macrae. There is a long established feud between the Macrae clan and the McFarish clan. On Mary's arrival she is warned to stay away from the McFarish clan and especially Willie McFarish played by Andrew Crawford. But she ignores this and starts a friendship with Willie which eventually leads to tragic consequences. Soon both brothers Fergus Macrae played by Maxwell Reed and John Macrae played by Duncan Macrae are vying for Mary's affections.

The film is set in the remote Isle of Skye and adds to the wonderful eerieness of the film. A well made drama film.

Default The Pure Hell of St.Trinians

Lacking the great Sim but worth watching for the courtroom scene alone, fantastic!

.......and whatever happened to Julie Alexander?

.....You couldn't hear it, if they were shooting at me with howitzers!

Last night I watched Pink String & Sealing Wax from 1945 starring Googie Withers, Mervyn Johns, Gordon Jackson, Garry Marsh, Sally Ann Howes, Mary Merrall, Frederick Piper, John Carol, Catherine Lacey, Jean Ireland, Maudie Edwards, Ronald Adam, Helen Goss and Don Stannard.

The film explores the clash between two very different worlds in Victorian Brighton. The privileged, religious household of respected chemist and Public Analyst Edward Sutton played by Mervyn Johns, who rules his family with self-righteous cruelty, and the seedy underworld occupied by pub landlord's wife Pearl played superbly by Googie Withers, her brutal alcoholic husband, Joe played by Garry Marsh and her lover a small time villain called Dan played by John Carol. Gordon Jackson plays David Sutton, eldest son of Edward Sutton who rather naively gets involved with Pearl.

A well made drama film with some very good performances.
