These past few nights we have been completely hooked by BBC 4 and their 'The Art of Arts TV' strand. Fascinating.

Last night I watched the Richard Chamberlain mini-series " Wallenberg" about the Swedish dipolmat Raoul Wallenberg who in Budapest during WWII saved jewish lives by issuing Swedish diplomatic passports to the city's jewish citizens.

Well above average for an American mini-series and a compelling subject matter made for an excellent evening's viewing.

It's a while since I've seen Target for Tonight, IIRC, the US film is rather more brazen propaganda but has better period action footage.

Mind you, very easy 70+ years later to be a critic but when they were made, both of them, new air crew were badly needed and 'telling it like it was' would hardly have helped.

.....You couldn't hear it, if they were shooting at me with howitzers!

I recorded & watched McVicar for the first time in ages. I'd forgotten

how good a film it was & how good Roger Daltrey was in it.

Top stuff!

Raymond Blanc's "The Restaurant" (TV)

Lantana (DVD) which was excellent. Geoffrey Rush and Rachel Blake were good to watch and very well cast

Corridor of Mirrors (1948) DVD-R. Gothic tale of aesthete Eric Portman’s doomed obsession with a woman he believes he loved centuries before. Portman is as usual excellent but I must admit that I found Edana Romney, the object of his desires a tad hammy. Oh what an excellent choice Kathleen Byron would have been in her stead. Still despite that an impressive film with some stunning visuals, also of interest is the screen debut of Christopher Lee in a small role.

Last night I watched Charles Crichton's " The Third Secret", following the death of a medical analyst a report sets out to discover was it suicide or murder.

Starring Stepehen Boyd and featuring Jack Hawkins, Richard Attenborough and the lovely Diane Cilento in guest star roles I founf this very enjoyable and the black and white photography was suberb.

I enjoyed watching Stop me before I kill, Ronald Lewis and Diane Cilento. The title is quite apt with a plot that´s more than a little far fetched but it wasn´t too long before I was willing Lewis to bump off his shrill - or trill wife, played by Cilento. Entertaining nevertheless.

I watched an eclectic mix of TV shows .... The Night Stalker, Big Jim and the Figaro Club, Budgie, Harry O and an episode of the US series Shannon from the 60s which featured an appearance by Terence de Marney as Irish seaman.

Jingle bells Batman smells ... I heard that at school Daddy.

Recount - an excellent drama on More4 about the shenanigans revolving around the 2000 Bush/Gore presidential election.

Kevin Spacey, Tom Wilkinson and John Hurt feature but the film is stolen by Laura Dern as the fairly potty Secretary of State of Florida Katherine Harris.
