Default Clive Candy's Trophies

I do wonder what PnP had in mind when they showed us Candy's mounted heads? Some, like the jutting crocodile, are patently ridiculous. All are tragic.

I suppose it was true to Edwardian "gentleman's sport", but I think Powell and Pressburger were taking the piss as early as 1943. No, I think that if they made that movie today they'd include the senseless slaughter unchanged, and may be commended by the World Wildlife Fund for showing how stupid trophy hunting was - and is.

30 Century Man

A documentary on Scott Walker. This fascinating insight into this unique &

uncompromising musician features contributions from the likes of Brian Eno

& Jarvis Cocker. David Bowie contributes & is also Executive Producer.

I found this journey through Walker's erratic musical career totally compelling.

From his pop idol days with The Walker Bros & his classic 60's solo output, to

his enigmatic work of recent times. Also featuring is composer Angela Morley,

who in her former guise was Wally Stott, musical arranger for Walker & amongst

other acts "The Goons".

Agree with you on this Wadsy, one of the best music documentaries I've seen

Greenaway's only good film IMHO .... and only then because of the towering performance of Brian Dennehy.

The Squeaker
An efficient Edgar Wallace story with some forgettable lead actors but thankfully some compensation in the shape of Alastair Sim and Robert Newton in support.
5/10

Hi Batman.
Yes, he is very good, it was a surprise to find him there, because I used to know him as second characters cast...he said that this rôle was the best one he had....
About P.Greenaway, my preference goes to "Drowing by Numbers"

No, you're not the only one !!
It was after three or four viewings of it that I began to understand the "stuff", because it's very talkative, with many understatements.....and great humour too, a great film, of course. Greenaway is a painter...quality of photo, beautiful angles..etc. Original and non-academic...

Moon.

The Lady in the Car with Glasses and a Gun.

An odd thriller from the late 60s that has secretary Samantha Eggar driving a car around France and becoming involved in strange goings on, some of them involving hitchhiker John McEnery and her boss Oliver Reed.

Engrossing because of its great period feel rather than the ultimately unsatisfactory mystery. Eggar's good but Ollie Reed and Stephane Audran don't have much to do...

The Clouded Yellow with Trev and Max plus Jean Simmons looking lovely. After years of off-air recordings and bootleg dvds finally a legit release for this great film. A top notch print really enhance the pleasure of watching this film. It's a chase thriller not too disimilar to director Ralph Thomas' own version of The 39 Steps, but IMHO is actually a better film. Good performances, photography, locations and a scene in which Max shows off his incredible barnet make this one a winner. Highly recommended.

Harry Potter & Philosopher's Stone. Well, we wanted to completely veg out having just rid ourselves of the in-laws from UK that we had with us for 3 weeks. This was on TV but we stuck the DVD on instead after 5 mins - to get better sound and avoid ad breaks! Rather enjoyed it and it was a good no-brainer.

Yeah, that's me. Billy Balthorpe, the man with no name.

Still working my way through the box set of A Family At War - last night I watched an episode of this. Fascinating and very absorbing - great drama. Coral Atkins is wonderful and although I have enormous respect for her decision to quit acting for social work, I do think we lost a fine actress when she did so.

.....mine has gin in it.....
