That's what it was, I can't remember what I did, maybe I had a better time than I think I did. How can I find a hypnotist? I need regression therapy.

The Spy Who Came in From the Cold. Richard Burton playing a dissolute, hard-drinking, world weary individual who incredibly manages to bed a beautiful younger woman. Who would have thought he had such range!!

Watched John harlow's 1945 film The Echo Murdeers starring david Farrar as Sexton Blake and Dennis Price in a tale of murder and mystery set in Cornwal.

Very much like a Boys Own adventure ( could have been one of Michael Palin's Rippin' Yarns ! )with dastardly villains etc and an enjoyable romp

"The Ladykillers"(recorded) which had me in awe and in stitches. I read that Herbert Lom, at 91, is the only surviving member of the "gang".

"France On A Plate". A "one off" from last Saturday on BBC4. The history of French cooking including the invention of Roux sauce, Nouvelle Cuisine and Lyon; quite rightly cited as the gastronomic capital of France.

A Happy and Healthy New Year to all

I watched Convoy this afternoon, G2 Channel. Really promising start good old 1940 naval authenticity plus, at no extra charge, spot the star names in bit parts, the film just getting going, a heroic death as the Sea Flower sinks warning the goodies of the Deutchland heading for them, film due to end at 4.30, the opposing forces moving in for a showdown then at 4.15 'THE END' suddenly pops up and thats it. For a cold afternoon it was OK and nice to hear the old 1940's English but dash it all to end like that.

Well earlier this evening :

Watched The three episode film Spirits of the Dead witha segment each directed by Vadim,Malle and Fellini based on Edgar Allen Poe tales- despite the presence of Terence Stamp in the Fellini segment this was hard going and now comes across as quite pretentious. A shame really

The Spider and the Fly (1949) (DVD-R). Another excellent film starring always reliable Eric Portman and well directed by Robert Hamer. A game of cat and mouse between Portman and Rolfe develops into something unexpected with the onset of WW1, well played by all and includes small early roles for the likes of Arthur Lowe.

Mumsy, Nanny, Sonny and Girly (1969) (DVD-R). Splendidly sick and creepy horror/black comedy. An excellent cast who play it superbly, Ursula Howells as cool strict Mumsy, Pat Heywood as frustrated subservient Nanny. The two "children" are good too with Howard Trevor as warped Sonny but Vanessa Howard excels as comely malevolent Girly flashing her thighs and knickers. Meanwhile Michael Byrant is the latest 'new friend' trying to avoid being 'sent to the angels'. Freddie Francis directs and the location of creepy old house (Oakley Court again) adds to the sinister atmosphere.
