Watched "Battle of Britain" again, for me the only shame about this film is that messrs Redgrave, Patrick and richardson didn't have more screen time, otherwise great entertainment

Followed this up with an episiode of the Maureen lLipman comedy series Agony which hadn't dated well.

Public Eye - a 1975 episode called The Fatted Calf. A good episode but very similar to a series 1 episode of Special Branch that I watched recently. It featured student 'radicals' in conflict with their fathers etc. Good performances from Alun Armstrong and of Alfred Burke.

Jingle bells Batman smells ... I heard that at school Daddy.

Last evening I decided I would have another 1967 Saturday night.

Starting off with Episode 3 of Dr Who & The Tomb of the Cyberman, first broadcasted in September 1967. Patrick Troughton plays the 2nd Doctor with his assistants Jamie, played by Frazer Hines and Victoria played by Deborah Watling. The Doctor, Jamie and Victoria arrive on Telos, where an archaeological group are exploring the Tomb of the Cybermen.

The Doctor, Jamie, Eric Klieg, Professor Parry and Toberman are trapped in the Tomb where the Cyberman plan to cybernise them. Victoria has gone to Captain Hopper to explain that they are trapped in the Tomb and that Kaftan closed the hatch and Victoria does not know the lever combination to open the hatch. Captain Hopper finds the correct lever and takes some smoke bombs with him to rescue the group. They all manage to escape from the Tomb, except Toberman who the Cybermen plan to cybernise. The Cybermen send cybermats to attack the group, the Doctor renders them harmless and then goes to check on Klieg and Kaftan who have been locked in the weapons testing room. Klieg and Kaftan suddenly appear having escaped with the aid of an x-ray laser gun found in the room. Klieg fires, the laser apparently aiming at the Doctor. Another excellent episode from one of the best stories in Doctor Who's history.

Following on was an episode of The Baron, broadcasted in January 1967. Steve Forrest plays the suave antiques dealer John Mannering with his assistant Cordelia Winfield played by the gorgeous Sue Lloyd. The episode is entitled Time To Kill and also stars Hamilton Dyce, Peter Bowles, George Murcell, Geraldine Moffatt, Edward Brayshaw, Frieda Knorr and David Garth.
The story concerns a cursed cameo which the daughter of the Owner is offering to sell to The Baron.

Following on as there are limited televised recordings of music from 1967, I decided to dig out some more 45's from my vast collection. The songs playing on the turntable were:-

The Univerals - Green Veined Orchid (Page One label); Glenn Weston - Pattern People (Columbia label); Chuck Berry - Back to Memphis (mercury); Eric Burdon - San Franciscan Nights (MGM label); Scott Walker - Jackie (Philips label); Cherry Smash - Sing Songs of Love (Track label); Yellow Balloon - Stained Glass Window (Stateside label); The Casinos - Then you can tell me goodbye (President label); George Bean - The Candy Shop is Closed (CBS label); Vanilla Fudge - You Keep Me Hangin' On (Atlantic lable); The Beatstalkers - My One Chance To Make It (CBS label); The Californians - Sunday Will Never Be The Same (Decca label); John Bryant - A Million Miles Away (Fontana label); The V.I.P's - Straight Down To The Bottom (Island label); The Beatles - Penny Lane (Parlophone label); Alan Bown - Toyland (MGM label); Young Rascals - Groovin' (Atlantic label); The Warm Sounds - The Birds and The Bees (Deram label); Keith West - Sam (Parlophone label); Virgin Sleep - Love (Deram label); West Point Supernatural - Time Will Tell (Reaction label); The Who - I Can See For Miles (Track label) and Peter Cook & Dudley Moore - The L.S Bumble Bee (Decca label).

Following on and rather aptly from the last tune, I watched Bedazzled starring Dudley Moore, Peter Cook, Eleanor Bron, Michael Bates, Raquel Welch, Barry Humphries, Robert Russell, Alba, Howard Goorney, Robin Hawdon, Daniele Noel, Parnell McGarry and Michael Trubshawe.

Stanley Moon played by Dudley Moore is a short order cook, infatuated with Margaret Spencer as played by Eleanor Bron, the statuesque waitress who works at Whimpy Burger with him. Despondent, he prepares to end it all when he meets George Spiggott aka the devil as played by Peter Cook. Selling his soul for 7 wishes, Stanley tries to make Margaret his own in different ways. As each fails, he becomes more aware of how empty his life had been and how much more he has to live for. A very entertaining and comical film.

Wrapping up last night's 1967 night was Assignment K starring Stephen Boyd, Camilla Sparv, Michael Redgrave, Robert Hoffmann, Leo McKern, Jeremy Kemp, Jane Merrow, Carl Mohner, John Alderton, Werner Peters, Ursula Howells, Vivi Bach, Catherine Schell, David Healy and Basil Dignam.

Philip Scott played by Stephen Boyd, head of a successful toy company, is also secretly the head of a British spy unit. When his cover is blown, enemy agents headed by Smith played by Leo McKern, kidnap his girlfriend Toni Peters played by Camilla Sparv to force him to reveal the identities of his operatives.

Enjoyable spy/thriller story directed by Val Guest with some very nice location work in Austria, Munich and London. I also enjoyed the swinging 60's music by Basil Kirchin.

All in all a very entertaining and highly enjoyable evening.

Default Hot Fuzz.

Spotted it on Sky & had heard it was good so gave it a try. Not a classic but worth watching as it was one great P***take from start to finish!

They rip into every WOS action movie and move it to rural Gloucestershire. Subtle script but worth sticking with! (Guinness still beckons though!)

.....You couldn't hear it, if they were shooting at me with howitzers!

I enjoyed GG ... but Shaw's accent sounds like a man with his finger up where the sun don't shine. He is also very mannered and appeared at times to be acting in a different show to everyone else. Ingleby and Glenister were first-rate though.

The Night of the Big Heat on DVD. Better than I thought it would be with Cushing et al. Trouble was the 'aliens' were a bit pathetic and it played on the same kind of twist to destoye them as war of the worlds. Extra info on this film anyone?

Patrick McGoohan in an episode of THE VISE entitled 'Gift From Heaven'. PMG was wearing a jacket that should have been impounded by the Noise Abatement Society and actually *kissed* the female lead not once, but three times! The more we see of his early performances, the more we can categorically say that he improved with age - this Danzinger produced half-hour was never going to set the world on fire...

This was seen at PM2008, the one day celebration of Patrick McGoohan and The Prisoner, held at Portmeirion. It was an absolutely gorgeous day and 'The Village' looked amazing.

Two very interesting guests - Robert Rietti, actor and voice artist extrordinaire (amongst many others, the voice of Emilio Largo in THUNDERBALL) and Bettine Le Beau, former Benny Hill girl who also appeared in The Prisoner and Likely Lads. She is a remarkable lady and wonderfullu funny and life-enchnacing

Yet another great day!

Default Sailors Three

Sailors Three 1940

My Season of Tommy Trinder continues with Sailors Three.
Tommy, Claude Hulbert and Michael Wilding
get drunk on shore leave and end up taking control of the German battleship Ludendorf, plenty of slapstick,a couple of musical interludes and Tommy doing his bit in fine music hall fashion

fun

New Tricks - a amusing and entertaining episode. As usual all the cast were excellent but James Bolam was missed. Does anyone know if his absence is purely plot based or were there other (off screen) reasons? I hope he returns soon.

Default Cromwell.

I really enjoyed the film the first time I saw it but every time I came to buy it on DVD, I took something else instead! What a waste! I think this film is so overlooked because of Guinness & Harris' performances. Top rate stuff and for me, I don't think anyone could have done any better as Cromwell!

BUT!!! I'd forgotten what a steller supporting cast! Oh that the British film industry could put together such a cast and still leave out the likes of Howard & Mills!! I don't think we have that depth of talent anymore...........

If you haven't seen this film for a while watch it again. It's a masterpiece. The opening sequence is so beautifully shot, the costumes are great and I know there are some inaccuracies but what a great film for a Monday night!

.....You couldn't hear it, if they were shooting at me with howitzers!
