Default Young Winston

I think it's an english film....

Simon Ward is a very good actor, I had just seen him before in "Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed", is he still living ? Did he take part to other famous ??

He is still working. He appeared in a few more films in leading roles but his film career waned fairly quickly. He concentrated mainly on the theatre with some TV work as well. A few years ago he suffered an horrific attack on his person but recovered fairly well. He is the father of actress Sophie Ward.

I think it's a role that got him typecast as a toff/officer. I did enjoy him in Deadly Strangers as the everyday travelling salesman.

Also there is Ian Holm playing in, he is amazing each time in lots of very different movies such as Madness of King George, Existenz, Time Bandits, The Naked Lunch....and the one inspired by Russel Banks novel and that I don't remember the tittle....

I'm glad you brought up Young Winston. I don't know why the film hasn't been shown on television--at least, I haven't seen it. Ann Bancroft was great as Jeannie Jerome, Winston's American mother. If for nothing else, the film was notable for its score--which I have on LP.

I don't want to be too negative here, but I've always thought him to be a very limited actor.

I also agree. It was a magnificent performance. A brilliant Jennie Churchill by Anne Bancroft and a fine Mrs Everest by Pat Heywood. Add a slew of excellent character performances by John Mills, Patrick Magee, Ian Holm, Edward Woodward and young Michael Audreson from CFF and The Doubledeckers, supported by Jack Hawkins, Denholm Elliot, Robert Hardy etc.
I see the VHS is selling for 30-60$ on Amazon. Why hasn't this been issued on DVD? Preferably with extras such as the deleted scene with Raymond Huntley.

Not that strange, there are many great films not available in the UK but are elsewhere in Europe.

He played Lloyd George. The film introduced me to Elgar's Nimrod - for that alone I am grateful to the film.

To my shame I have never seen this film. I will try to rectify this by attempting to purchase it on DVD from somewhere.
