Default Sitting Target (1972)

Hi.

I recorded `sitting target` with Ollie Reed last night, I haven`t seen it before, I am keeping it to watch over Christmas. Is it any good anybody?

xx

A bit hit and miss imho despite a great opening. Some exciting scenes but also parts when the plot becomes leaden - well worth watching tho.

Yes, good film indeed. Jill St John's voice is obviously dubbed! That is no way really her speaking those lines.

A brutal Brit gangster film this was!, much maligned at the time of release due to the violence but seem's tame by today's standard's, good perf by Ollie and Ian McShane, and as said Miss St John's accent is poorly dubbed in, a 6/10 for me.

Ollie is very good in this because he's doing what he does best - and that is exuding menace. Sounds a bit like Bill Sykes at times though

Ian McShane is excellent too.

(Also, watch out for the the brief appearance of Stender's Dot Cotton)

One of my favourite Ollie films, pity though every time it’s on I miss it. As far as I’m concerned he never received the recognition rightly deserved in this country. a true movie star. I remember when he died watching one of those programs that see out the old year and welcome the new, it was disgraceful they never even mentioned him. Oh well, I will need to wait until it come s around again.. :-(

BTW SirOllyBolly, I love that pic you are using of Ollie, it cheers be up every time I see it.. :)

I once interviewed the late Peter Brayham about his work as Ollie's double and the stunt arranger on the film

Wans't Reg Prince Ollie's usual double and stand-in at that time?

I'm not sure when his drinking starting to affect his filmmaking but his output was pretty prolific in the 1960's and 1970's and he was a major star for at least 10 years (1966-76 approx) working under a host of name directors. Almost all Ollie Reeds film in that period are worth watching.

I know that Pete worked with Ollie a lot at that time. I remember him telling me of the hilarious train journey with the two of them..Pete on his word to keep Ollie sober and Ollie obliging him to make sure Pete didn't get into trouble.Of course that didn't stop Ollie spiking Pete's soft drink. When they arrived Ollie stepped off the train and Pete collapsed onto the platform, leaving Ollie to comment that he had, being a professional arrived ready for work but " something had better do something about my stunt arranger he's a $%^&ing p*&s-artist".
I can only go on what Pete told me but he was a very professional and honest man with a long career.I don't think he had any need to lie.

That is a great Ollie story

Didn't mean to cast doubt on the integrity of you or Mr Brayham - thats for sure.

My enquiry only came from what I've read about Oliver and about Reg Prince - who remains to this day a very mysterious character.

Does anybody ever know happened to Reg Prince? I know that he and Oliver had a falling out after a court case in which Prince claimed that Oliver threw him over a hotel balcony during the filming of Castaway and broke his back - which ended their friendship.

I wasn't at all offended SirOB, just trying to make clear that AFAIK Pete and Ollie had a long working relationship and friendship.
