Sounds like an intresting Sci-Fi film does that, I'll keep an eye out for it.
Hi,Billy
I konw what it is about - it is more of a ghost story than sci-fi. My mate,Albert the ghost - the apparition I saw a few years ago.

Any excuse to flag up a British Silent......

High Treason, Maurice Elvey, 1928.

How's this for a bit of fortune telling....it's set thirty years into the future, the mid '50's... global politics has devolved to two federal global superpowers, there's friction at the borders, and antipathy at governmental level, but no actual fighting...you could call it a cold war even...arms manufacturers are concerned that arms sales are down, so employ agents provocateurs to pose as terrorists to foment a World War...a remote bomb is planted on the Channel Tunnel Rail express, which explodes, destroying the tunnel.

Retaliation is swift...fleets of Heavy bombers fly out and destroy London in a blitz of high explosives....damaging the Headquarters of the World Peace League, the last hope for a planet on the brink of all-out war...the Chief Vicar of the League mediates between the Governments, desperate to avoid an escalation as conscription starts, while his daughter, in love with the leader of the Air Force, tries other methods with him....Peace at all costs...

Great effects (the blitz is astonishing bearing in mind the year), priceless futurology, an amazing shower sequence with Benita Hume, astonishing costumes, Raymond Massey auditioning for Things To Come, and Wally Patch as the cockney ex-Sergeant Commissionaire of the Peace League...What more could a British Silent/SciFi Film fan want?? Benita Hume in High Treason

Bit of a Bay Window, what??

This sounds right up my street. Has it been released by the BFI? I can't see it on their site - or is it "Things to Come!"

Never been released or shown on TV AFAIK...BFI have a superb print which it shows at the drop of a hat... when it was shown in 2004 as part of thge British 20's season it was a huge hit...has the potential to be adopted as a camp classic...especially with the bizarre nightclub sequence...
I hope the BFI can release it...on the back of the BBC4 season perhaps...but there are many others that should also see the light of day, and the BFI Video dept. is tiny...

Quatermass And The Pit

Best of the three Quatermass films by a long way.

My next choice?....A little-known films starring James Olsen called Moon Zero Two. It was a Hammer film and was a cross between a Sci-Fi and a Western. Check it out...:)

Why can't Alien be classed a British film?

It can be. It depends on the criteria you use to define the country of origin of a film.
The IMDb classifies it as a UK / US joint production (with the UK first).

Any updates on Penfold's suggested HIGH TREASON (1928)? Sounds great - arms industry laments, provocateurs, etc.

Thanks Steve, well in that case I'm afraid it beats the cr@p out of most of those listed and only 2001 comes close afaic.

I have seen most of these, although there are some that I have missed. I am a fan of the Quatermass film series. The others are brilliant, the ones that I have watched, and will try to see the others on Google, so I can watch the ones that I have missed.

British sci-fi is brilliant both in film and television.

Hi. I mentioned this in another thread somewhere, but it's been bugging me for a while. Me mate says it's horror, but I'm pretty sure it's science fiction. Invisible brains on stalks, anyone?

all out of gum. . .
