I'm a big fan of BARBARA FLYNN, loved seeing her in the war drama A FAMILY AT WAR. I wish they would reshow this as they have done with SECRET ARMY.

Does anybody know what happened to Jess Conrad?

I notice that the film was made at ABPC Elstree (Casting Director: Robert Lennard from ABPC)
but was released on the INDEPENDENT circuit in 1962. I wonder why ABC passed on this one?
(Quite a commercial film, I would have thought...)

Yes, she's got a lovely voice for it.

But I also loved her in The Beiderbecke Trilogy
And as the kinky Dr. Rose Marie in A Very Peculiar Practice

Jess Conrad was on a property programme the other day. He was looking to sell his house in Denham and move to the south coast.

"Aha Mr Aubergine ... that's where you're wrong!"

I always picture Jess as being a young guy.
It's hard to believe that he is now aged 72.

Where does time fly to?

Dave.

It's currently being filmed now, a couple of months ago part of Holloway Road (where Joe lived in a Flat above a Shop) was 'dressed up' (or should I say down?!!) to resemble the look of the early 60's, Rita Tushingham and Pam Ferris are also in the Movie

Jess is playing Larry Parnes, the Pop Impresario, famous for his "stable of boys". What is unique, there is also a young actor playing Jess Conrad in the film. The play was excellent, and I am glad that they are using Con O' Neal who was so good as Joe Meek on stage.

Default The Boys (1962)

Managed to procure a pristine DVD copy from a fellow member of 'The Boys'.
Splendidly photographed in black and white, full of period (62') footage; Suits and ties, beehives, routemaster buses, street scenes, duffle coats,(surprisingly long hair for youths in '62!) cafes, cinemas etc. Robert Morley does a sterling job in defending 4 South London 'yobbo's' accused of murder.. Excellent footage of smoky inner London council tenements. A great cast of well known faces, Rita Webb,David Lodge,Richard Todd, Dudley Sutton,Wilfred Brambell, Felix Aylmer- ad infinitum! Very nostalgic slice of London early sixties life.

I really liked 'The Boys' when it was shown on TV (a couple of years ago?). Yes, a bit dated, but great to see so many familiar faces - a powerful ending as well. Jess Conrad, wasn't he a pop star yonks ago?

Jess had three singles on Decca that were released at the dawn of the 60's, the idea was for him to be major pop star under the direction of Joe Meek, but he got into a fight with Heinz and Jess bit some skin from Heinz's Nose, and because of this Joe would have no more to do with Jess.

He plays a "pop song" while he's serenading some girls in a pub in Michael Powell's film The Queen's Guards (1961). He also acts a bit as a parachuting guardsman! But even that doesn't make it a great film
