The great Val Guest will be at NFT3 tonight for a screening of HELL IS A CITY. It will be a privilege to be in the same room as the man who penned the shortest joke in the world from OH MR PORTER - "Next train's gone"

I, unfortunately, have a prior engagement but I have been ringing round friends who will be going (complete with copies of his biography).

SPACE 1999 was another of Val's productions.

Here is a quick link to his page on IMDB for those who want to get a better idea of the highlights of his career.

Val Guest on the IMDB website

Unfortunately the list on the IMDB database is not as comprehensive as it should be. A definite list can be found at the back of his biography.

Can anyone here advise me how to submit updates to the IMDB website? Thanks in advance.

For any titles that already exist in the IMDb...
Go to the page for Val, click on the Update button near the bottom of the page and add the details of what he did for the existing titles.

For any titles that aren't already in the database you'll have to add them as new titles.
You can do that, for each title, by starting here and filling in as much as you can about each title.

If you have any problems then give me a shout.

Hi Smudge (and anyone else who is interested). Here is my report on the Val Guest event which I attended yesterday. On arrival at the N.F.T. I discovered that the event had been moved from N.F.T. 1 to N.F.T. 3. A bit of a shame as the screen in N.F.T. 1 is a lot better and I had booked a ticket in the front row. However at least it was still going ahead. Due to the change in screen it was not a freeforall. I managed to get a seat in the second row. I was still reading the programme notes when in walked Val Guest with his wife. They took their seats in the front row. Val was sitting directly in front of me. I had not seem 'Hell Is a City' before but knew it had a good rep. I really enjoyed the film especially seeing it on the big screen. After that came the interview with Val Guest. I had seen him interviewed before at the N.F.T. a few years ago when they screened 'The Day the Earth Caught Fire'. I have also read his autobiography (yes J.M.N. it was 'So You Want to be in Pictures' that I got signed at the Lunch Club) so I had heard quite a few of his ancodotes before. However as you would expect from the man who wrote some of Will Hay's best pictures as well as other numerous comedies he has excellent comic timing and so it was a pleasure to hear him. All in all a great evening.

Thanks for the update! I wish I had been there! Do you know if he will be making any other personal appearances in London this week?

The only two personal appearances that I know of Val Guest making during his current time in London were the lunch club the other week and the n.f.t. yesterday. Nothing else was mentioned yesterday so I guess not but perhaps if he is then other members of this forum have some info.

Thanks Nog!

Like you said, shame about the screen change, but glad to hearit was a grand night. Mr. Guest is certainly a 'top bloke'- hope there was lots of at the end of the evening.

Just sorry I missed it

Yes it was.

It was just a pity that the reels for 'Hell is a City' were shown in the wrong order!!

I know he is recording audio commentaries for 'Expresso Bongo' (with his wife Yolande) and 'Oh Mr Porter!'.
