I'd like to nominate the scene in Charles Laughton's directorial debut Night of the Hunter where the children escape from the clutches of the preacherman by jumping in a small boat and begin drifting down river, under the watchful gaze of a wise owl....

Hmmm, it appears no-one has any spine-chilling, magical moments to share.

I'll stick to reading others posts in future

Spine chilling rather than tingling - Conrad Veidt as Jew Suss (in "Jew Suss") as he is being hanged higher than the gallows. His screams are the most harrowing and disturbing I have ever heard.

He is also similarly brilliant (and disturbing) in "Rasputin" as Felix attempts to kill him but as that is a German film, it doesn't count - but as he later became a British subject...

I shall think on about something more pleasant - and magical!
