Is anyone familiar with this film - I've just watched it again (for the umpteenth time) and there is one bit of dialogue I can't for the life of me fathom (it is said in a humorous context).

It is where the boys are being introduced to the headmaster shortly after arriving at the castle, and as they troop past the master giving their names, there is Porter Major, Porter Minor, and Porter..... the name must be a joke on Porter or major, minor, etc...

Help!

Or a joke that the first two Porter siblings require a porter for their chattels.

Donkey's years since I saw it; does Will Hay's line tail off like that, as you've written that, as if he's struggling for what you should call the youngest of three brothers in that context, or does he say Porter Minimus??? If the former, that's the joke...he's a fish out of water; a proper public schoolmaster would know that....

Bit of a Bay Window, what??

Porter Minimus - I think that might be it. It's actually the boys telling the headmaster (not played by Hay) what their names are as they file past him.

Minimus - I don't know the word, would it be funny in the context of a major and minor preceeding it?

A public school/latin-type thing?
