(Captain Casper @ Feb 25 2006, 08:04 PM) Whats made me take notice is the fact Craig "hates handguns",

And who loves handguns? (apart from Dick Cheney and Charlton Heston)

I like your qualification "partially." Sometimes I think that training can squash creativity and encourage fitting a certain mould in vogue. But not always.

It's an interesting thought...in your opinion, what filmmakers who were trained in film school are generic in their styles?... and if you care to address also Sam's implication that having a film school diploma rules out talent?

It seems that many of today's emerging filmmakers have similar styles, or their work is more anonymous if you will than previous generations. I suspect at film school you study various styles and absorb that as opposed to just learning technical skills and developing your own style - like with anything if you are shown how something is done then you will probably do it that way as opposed to figuring out how to do it yourself.

I love handguns not because of what they are capable of "in the wrong hands",but simply as pieces of mechanical engineering.

cheers Ollie.

With the current trend for gay themed films in hollywood, should we expect bond boys instead of bond girls?

As long as the torture of the bollocks is done by a busty female and not a mincer i will be ecstatic.

I'm very much looking forward to seeing Craig as Bond.
I liked him in LAYER CAKE; he was also good in ARCHANGEL.
...
Hi, Moew:

Having only seen Daniel Craig in Layer Cake where he was excellent and had an edge and cool that made me think he'll be great as a new type of Bond, I've also tried to see other Craig films since then. As you say he's a fine actor and quite versatile.

Apparently, Craig himself has had doubts about playing Bond:

Daniel's a reluctant 007

New 007 Daniel Craig says he never wanted to be James Bond. The 38-year-old, who has received hate mail from hardcore fans, said: "I never really wanted to do James Bond.

"Don't get me wrong, I want to make big movies and I want to make as much money as I possibly can, but there's not a tremendous emotional challenge." Craig said he fears getting the blame if Casino Royale is a flop. He added: "It's a dodgy place to be walking. I don't really want to get the rap for destroying the franchise."

Best,

Barbara

I don't really think he has much to worry about. At best, he'll prove to be a very good to a great Bond, at worst, he won't be asked back a la Lazenby. Bond will on forever.

So he's no Sean Connery, Roger Moore, or Pierce Brosnan. Neither was Timothy Dalton and for sure neither was George Lazenby! David Niven (as good as he was in some roles) and Barry Nelson aren't even in the running.

I do think the "hate Daniel Craig as Bond" crowd are being childish. It's not about all that!

It was a wonderful treat
To hear the patter of horsey feet.

I agree, Nellybly. The more I watch Craig, the more I like him. His cool edginess, blue eyes which focus on a distant scene, packaged in a lean, long torso which is _gasp_ wonderful sans shirt may just make for the best Bond for this particular decade.

Best,

Barbara

What? this cool, impersonal assessment of the attributes of our newest Mr. Bond?
The pleasure dome of the "Sexiest Actresses" thread has been raided three times for their photos!

Hello, Barbara.

I agree completely! I've only ever seen Daniel Craig once, in The Ice House made in 1997, but his sultry performance and the sexual chemistry and sparks between his character D.S. Andy McLoughlin and Anne Catrell (played equally well by Kitty Aldridge) was, and remains, very memorable.

Sean Connery stamped his name on the role of Bond, for no other reason perhaps than because he did it first, but not indelibly methinks. I concur with the view of the purists only in a nostalgic sense, being a dedicated follower of all things Sixties. I think all of the other actors (apart from George Lazenby and David Niven) have brought something worthwhile to the role, and James Bond is all the better for it. This was especially true, IMO, with Licence to Kill, starring Timothy Dalton, which was a distinct and refreshing departure from previous Bond films (and apparently closer to portraying Bond as intended by Ian Fleming).

IMO, making comparisons between the actors is not worth the effort because Bond films are just escapist fun (and, for the most part, cracking good entertainment), as well as generally being a product of their time and therefore different anyway, and shouldn't be taken too seriously. Times have changed and so has Bond.

My only reservation is the more thank likely over-indulgence in special effects in which case, would it really matter much who plays Bond?

I say give Daniel a go!

I think he deserves a spot in The Sexiest Actors.
