The protesters have quite a website going.
Sydney Herald 22 Feb 2006 http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2006/...563833482.html Angry Bond fans threaten to boycott movie A group of James Bond fans have launched a website to protest British actor Daniel Craig replacing Pierce Brosnan in the 007 film franchise. They're shaken, stirred and just plain angry. And several months late with their response. A group of James Bond fans have launched a website, http://www.craignotbond.com, to protest against British actor Daniel Craig replacing Pierce Brosnan in the 007 film franchise, and threaten a boycott of the upcoming Bond movie Casino Royale. Craig, whose recent screen credits include Munich and The Jacket, was tapped last October to play the secret-agent icon. "EON Productions angered fans around the world when they fired Pierce Brosnan at the height of his popularity as Bond," said a statement on the site. "To add insult to injury, EON cast a short, blond, odd-looking Daniel Craig in the role of Bond. "Craig, described by The New York Times as having a 'pale, flattened face and large, fleshy ears' is a terrible choice for Bond. If EON Productions and Sony Pictures will not accept they've made a big mistake, then Bond fans promise to boycott Casino Royale!" Brosnan stepped into the shoes of dashing predecessors Sean Connery and Roger Moore to play a blue-eyed, dark-haired Bond in Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough and Die Another Day. In its statement, the website claimed EON did not want to pay for Brosnan or other high-profile actors Hugh Jackman and Clive Owen as replacements. AP |

I would think Craig could well give a more realistic [is that a contradiction in terms for a Bond film?] performance. FELL FELL A signature is no substitute for a life |

As for these protesters,I can't see why they are having a go at Craig - he is only replacing a man,who had parted company long before Daniel Craig came on the radar and Brosnan had encouraged him to go for the part.
Yes,I am sorry Brosnan was fired - was he demanding too much money? - as he was in commercial terms the most successful Bond. That is now history and I am lookng forward to DC's take on the role. Ta Ta |

No, I wasn't taking pop shots at anyone.
It's not my favorite genre either. I too prefer a film with a little more depth. But Bond films can be hugely entertaining. Though like many people feel that the Connery ones are the best. Roger Moore bought a little more camp humour to the films. I don't see how this bunch of assorted morons and baffoons can really protest at Daniel Craig until they've given him a chance. As has been said, he's a very good actor. And personally, I think he looks pretty good for the part. |

I'm glad to hear all of your comments about Daniel Craig. Personally, I was startled to see the boycotters' website. I've heard that Brosnan wanted a very high figure. Well, now he can focus on the more substantial acting/directing projects he's been inclined to in recent years anyhow. I admire that in a man who could just stay a pretty face, so good luck to him. I've only seen Craig in Layer Cake and for several reasons, am looking forward to Munich. Bottom line from this female: Craig might just be terrific as a 21st c. Bond. I sense a sexy, detached, cool sizzle in him unlike former Bonds who were memorable in their own ways. He may be shorter than Moore and have a more world-weary face than Brosnan, but when he's on screen, I'm looking at him. Yet, as someone mentioned, Craig's greatest competition may be all the latest special effects. Best, Barbara |

You're not alone. Toby Stephens, Brosnan, and Christopher Lee say pretty much the same thing. BBC NEWS | Entertainment | Bond villain defends actor Craig Best, Barbara ------------ 23 February 2006, 17:48 GMT Bond villain defends actor Craig By Simon Holden in London Stephens is the son of Sir Robert Stephens and Dame Maggie Smith Former Bond villain Toby Stephens has defended the latest 007 star Daniel Craig in the wake of criticism from some fans over his casting. Website craignotbond. asked fans on Wednesday to boycott the new film Casino Royale, saying Craig's casting was "ruining the future" of James Bond. Stephens, who played Gustav Graves in 2002's Die Another Day, said Bond was becoming "too cliched and unrealistic". He said the casting of Craig in the lead role was "inspired". "The last Bond film took it to an extreme in one direction and it became fantastical," he said. Daniel Craig took the role in October last year "It was all those things people want from Bond but it was stretched to its absolute limit." Stephens, who is starring in upcoming ITV1 drama The Best Man, said the decision to choose Craig as the latest bond took the character "back to its roots". "Craig is a serious actor and doesn't look like a traditional James Bond," he said. "He is a very dark actor and a very interesting one and I think he will be brilliant. It will reinvigorate the whole thing. "It is not going to be to everyone's taste but that is the thing when you take over a role, you are not going to please everyone." British actor Craig, 37, was announced as the sixth James Bond in October last year. Best-known for his roles in gangster thriller Layer Cake and the recent Spielberg drama Munich, he has been the subject of media criticism since he made his debut as the secret agent at a lacklustre press conference. Earlier this week former Bond star Pierce Brosnan defended his successor. "I think Daniel is a very fine actor," he said. And veteran actor Christopher Lee has also called on critics to give the new Bond star a chance. "People should not pass judgment until they have seen the film," said Lee, a former Bond villain and a distant cousin of 007 creator Ian Fleming. |

I've only seen the Sean Connery, George Lazenby, and David Niven Bonds. My b/f in the early '70s was Bond fan and if I didn't state a preference of films to see, Bond would get the nod, though the campy (or whatever the heck it was) original "Casino Royale" with Niven I saw on my own. I make no excuses. LOL I thought Lazenby was all right but the one he was in "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" was not your "usual" Bond film so I don't know if that or a lack of sensuality was what made it a one shot Bond stint for him. I seem to recall there was a specifiic reason (though I could be wrong) why he didn't go over.
To hear the patter of horsey feet. Thanks For The Buggyride recorded by Percival Mackey |
