Vinnie : So I Go in with the Shoot-ah and hit 'im on the Hoot-ah!

Director : Easy Tiger , You're not with your faux Barrow-Boy Ruffians now! This is Comedy, Sweetie , or at least a loose collection of Double-Entendres presented to a Generation that has dollops of hardcore every night on Channel 5!

Vinnie : You What?

Director : It's no use , Pussycat. Here we are trying to remake a genre that found it's apogee in a period famous for its sexual repression and prudishness. It's no use today ...everone is just too...hardened

Vinnie : Fnaar Fnaar ...You said Hard!

Director : On the other Hand....

Vinnie : Tee Hee

Director : Oh , Get a Grip!

Vinnie : Oh , now me sides are hurting HAHAHAHA

Director : As long as men laugh at fourth-form Willy Jokes , theres just a chance this film will succeed ....now wheres the Best Boy?

Vinnie : Nurse!

Couldn't You just try acting , Old Boy...It's so much easier

I saw part of an old b/w film yesterday on Film 4 with Laurence Harvey, Stanley Baker, Richard Baseheart and a very beautiful young Joan Collins. LH had an almost public school BBC accent some of the time, but when he spoke quick lines of dialogue he definitely slipped "bek into hiz Serth Efrikahn dahlecked, yah!" Great hair style too he must have used cans and cans of Cossack!

He also got his writers to ditch the Railway Cuttings address for a bedsitter in Earl's Court, and the astrakhan collared coat and Homburg hat for a raincoat and trilby. The solo Hancock was very successful until he split with his writers, Ray Galton and Alan Simpson.
I was listening to a radio biog of Will Hay the other day and he did the same with Marriot and Moffatt because they were getting too popular with the public. I've got a boxed set of Hay films and I must admit that these two certainly added to the comedy and, unlike Hancock, I don't think Hay quite pulled it off on his own!
