Does anyone have any interest in British film star's home addresses [1933]?

For instance, Anna Neagle lived at 182, Portsdown Road, London, W.7
Margaret Bannerman, Bella Vista, Bourne End , Bucks
Amy Veness, 39, The Grove, London, W.6
Dodo Watts, 46, Baker Street, London, W.1
Raymond Massey, 21, Wilton Crescent, London, S.W.1

Hello, Ken,

It's interesting to know. 1933 is so long ago, there's little harm done now in imagining the areas these actors liked and chose to live in. It's particularly helpful for biographers. Is there a site that lists old addresses?

Thanks,

Barbara

Barbara, thank you for reply...I don't know of a site. My information is from research done on other aspects of
British cinema...If it is acceptable, I am happy to post the list I have...Approx 165 home addresses, and numerous 'care ofs'...In Hollywood, tours of the star's homes of yesteryear is big business!

I know that it may only be viewed as 'Trivia', but it is still a part of British cinema history.

Regards, Ken.

I think to some people it's fascinating stuff, especially to those who live in those addresses now!

Hello, Ken,

Trivial or important is often determined by the need for or interest in something, so please do post your list. One thing you might consider is to break it into several posts which will make it less cumbersome, especially for anyone who might reply. If one replies quickly and doesn't shorten the inserted quote, the long list will be perpetuated in every reply.

Besides the pleasure of knowing the areas that these actors liked and chose to live in, here is why I would find the address list helpful information were I a biographer or interested in a film person's history. Many times, one will come across a letter written by the actor with a date on top but no address, yet we wish to know where he was when he wrote it for it may have bearing on the content. Or there may be a reference to or by the actor in one printed form or another in 1933. Identifying the location of the actor will help us make sense of his reference to a "nearby park," or "xxx who lived across the street," or the "little cinema nearby," or even more important, "After the performance at the theatre, I walked home tonight for it was only two blocks away." Armed with his address at the time, we can begin to pinpoint that theatre and other references made by the actor. Or consider a description of the actor which says, "Of all her flats, it alone had a morning light which did justice to her beauty." Wouldn't we want to know the address of that flat!

Placing the actor at an address helps fill in his or her history. I'm certain that biographers have had to reconstruct time periods in exactly this way. People who die don't always leave nicely prepared lists to help trace their steps.

I don't consider addresses trivia. They are merely waiting to become part of a larger picture.

Thanks for sharing,

Barbara

Dead on, Sam. Most people love talking about famous people who formerly lived in their house as an affirmation of their own choice and taste. I can hear one now saying, "Yes, Sir John Gielgud lived here when he was a struggling actor at the Old Vic" although given Sir John's rare talent, did he have to struggle?

Mark Lewis was played by Carl Böhm in Michael Powell's Peeping Tom. He suffered from a morbid interest in watching other people, particularly women, in their death throes.

Hello Ken,
It was my attempt at A little cheeky humour insinuating you maybe a peeping tom having all those actresses addresses all meant in fun and no offense intended.
