Brannigan was interesting because, as someone who grew up with Dempsey and Makepeace, I could see exactly where that series came from! I only saw Brannigan relatively recently. Nothing is new.
Another Judy Geeson film, the bizarre but strangely intriguing Goodbye Gemini (Twinsanity) has lots of street scenes. That just scrapes into the '70's... :) |

Have you seen "Steptoe and Son ride again"?SPOILER!There's a great scene of british streets of london from about 1973ish.It almost looks like they did a bit of guerilla filming and just shot it off the cuff, you can see a lot of very perplexed pedestrians in the background.Reminds me of when i was a very wee nipper on those same streets.(SNIFF)

All Coppers are.... (1972)
Has plenty of good outdoor shots . It was filmed in the Battersea area in streets near to the power station and is one of my all time favourite films . I first saw it by accident when I left the video running one night in 1991 and it was shown as part of ITVs 'late night late' line up at about 1 in the morning. To the best of my knowledge its not been seen on television since then. I was lucky to find a copy on VHS for £1 in a junk shop a few years back but i can't find the bloody thing now. Wm Porter |

Brannigan is on DVD; I just picked it up on Amazon for a few quid. Years since I'd watched it, well worth the purchase. Some great London street scenes and notable for Dickie Attenborough doing a 'tough guy' act and an early outing for Tony Robinson. And of the others, special mention for 'Frenzy' and its depiction of 'old Covent Garden' (recreated in a studio, but pretty much on the money for all accounts)
As a 70s social document - with an interesting look at period police and emergency service rig and English period New Towns - look at Sidney Lumet's "The Offence"; not London - it's set in Bucks - but worth watching nonetheless. |

I've ordered a copy of Frenzy so I'm looking forward to seeing it again soon after many years. It's one of those Hitchcock films that doesn't get on the box much and being in colour and set in London in the 70s it is a real nostalgia trip. It's strange that some of his films that weren't up to much like Marnie seem to be repeated rather too frequently.
