That's a fascinating topic. The John Buchan novel is seriously flawed by unreasonable coincidence. I love the Robert Powell - even though I don't much like his rather camp gung-ho style. The Thames fog, Hannay's flat, the whole railway thing, the clock tower... all is beautifully presented. I wish the disguise incident had been made more rational.

The block of flats where Hannay lived in the Hitchcock version, is at 88 Portland Place, London. Don't remember the Powell version. The Ipcress File fight is at the bottom of the steps at the rear of The Albert Hall. The telephone box doesn't exist, it was a prop. There is a Block of flats there called Albert Hall Mansions, just around the corner from where the fight took place. Funnily enough I saw Michael Caine a couple of weeks ago in a Store, unfortunately he looked about 130, must have been a bad day! |
