Default British Classics Collection

Does anyone know if there is a complete list of the titles released by VCI in their British Classics Collection? There does seem to have been many more released than I originally thought. I have 14 titles but I know of at least 4 or 5 more appearing on eBay in the last few weeks.

Are these films still generally available ? - there is no mention of them on Amazon/MVC etc. and the VCI's own site doesn't help. Most of mine came from my local Booksale where they could be had for the grand sum of £2.99 each

Hi
Most of the VCI British Classics Collection released in 1997 retailed at £4.99 but were missed by many people because they were only available through the HMV Record shops chain. Earlier entries in the Britsih Classics Collection (Rome Express, Quartet, This Happy Breed etc) were widely available but much more pricey (I bought the theree mentioned and I think they were about £12.99 each). The £4.99 titles numbered about 50 and were very variable in quality - being cheap they didn't use very good quality tape, and some suffered from fuzziness and numerous dropouts in my experience. The series did however make available a small number of titles which to date still have not had a tv screening in the UK. These included the 1931 version of Hindle Wakes, Jessie Matthews in There goes the bride & The Man from Toronto etc

Obviously it's preferable to have a film on proper video without adverts etc, but I just thought I'd give you advance notice that 'Easy Money' is on Channel 4 this Friday night/early hours of Saturday I think, best to check the listings though.

THE KIDNAPPERS was shown on Channel 4 on the afternoon of Thursday, February 5th this year. So you may have to wait another two years for a repeat.

I have four British Classics Collection Tapes:
"THE WAY AHEAD" 1944
"THE OCTOBER MAN" 1947
"THE KIDNAPPERS" 1953
"SEVEN THUNDERS" 1957
The packaging design is dated 1996 & 1997 but I'm sure I brought them from BLACKSTAR (now something else) within the last three years.

Does anyone know if Here Come the Huggetts is part of the British Classics Collection? I know Holiday Camp, Vote for Huggett and Huggetts Abroad are in the Collection. Most Gainsborough films apear to be in the Collection which I think must be about 125 films but there could be more. Any ideas?

I imagine quite a few of your remember the British Classics Collection from a few years back. I collected a few of the titles and still pick the odd one up from ebay or charity shops etc. I wonder if anyone has ever thought about bringing some of these titles out on DVD. I don't know how big an audience there would be but I would love to able to buy DVDs with people such as Jack Hulbert & Cicely Courtneidge, Jessie Matthews, Ralph Lynn & Tom Walls. As well as the titles in the series there were many other films from around the time period that could be released. 'Take My Tip' and 'Under Your Hat' for example. Maybe its just wishful thinking but it would be nice to see a lot more British films from the thirties and forties released on DVD

I'm culling my video collection, so the following 1940s titles are available, mainly from British Classics Collection: Whisky Galore!, Dear Mr Prohack, Vote for Huggett, The Huggetts Abroad, Dear Murderer, The Spider and the Fly, Daybreak, The Perfect Woman, Carnival, The Brothers, The Root of all Evil, The Mark of Cain, Woman Hater, Broken Journey, The Reluctant Widow, Madeleine. Anyone interested?

Hi

Has anyone got a copy of Miranda or its sequel Mad About Men ?

I have recently purchased Bachelor of Hearts on DVD by AmCo from Amazon.de. and am very happy with it. It is known as Mit dem Kopf durch die Wand ('With my Head by the Wall'). The picture quality is very good for most part of it and it has both a german and english soundtrack. The german soundtrack is of particular interest as it has Hardy Kruger speaking his own lines in german.

I have good recordings of both MIRANDA and MAD ABOUT MEN. Perhaps we could do a trade as I would like to see BACHELOR OF HEARTS. Send me a PM and I will respond. Best Aphra

Yeh. I'm interested in most of them. What's the terms and conditions?
