A perfect example is seller on E-Bay who is selling the first 4 St Trinian's films and the latest one - the one just issued on DVD and saying that they are all out of copyright! (Listing removed earlier today)
I agree that there are some good people on E-Bay - but it's like life - the good things are there but they're often harder to find.
Asfor the public domain thing - that has come up here before and generally it's as has been said and the USA is the place to go.
To give you an idea of what is out there, click on this Amazon US link. Ignore the first 2 items - but all the box sets in there are full of public domain titles. Very few British though.
Amazon.com: 50 - DVD: Movies & TV

he problem with Amazon.com is that usually they will not sell DVDs to the UK. There are a few American dealers on Amazon UK such as Caiman who sell films from America however whilsr many are not Region coded most are region 1 NTSC and require a multi region player.

You can get multi-regional dvd players for less than £40 that don't even require you to hack them. Surely a small price to pay when you consider how much stuff isn't available on Region 2?

You see all this "Public Domain" stuff on ebay and I wonder if it is legal.
After being away on holiday for the last couple of weeks I spent a long time trawling Ebay last night for dvds it was surprising just how much stuff was offered as being in the public domain when in fact it wasn't, but on the other hand if this is the only way I can get the films ect that I want I will buy them off Ebay sellers

Yes they do. I buy loads of DVDs from Amazon.com, as well as from Amazon.ca
They give you a warning that they are region 1 DVDs and that they might not play in the UK, but they will certainly sell them to you

It's also worth checking amazon.de and amazon.fr as you can find many R2 British films on those sites which remain unreleased in the UK.

I wish I had claws.

And even Amazon.co.jp and Amazon.cn - if you can figure out the ideograms

All the British films I have seen listed (or have bought) have had English dialogue tracks. The only irritating thing I have found is that some of the French dvds have French subtitles that you can't get rid of. The German subtitles always seem to be removeable.

I wish I had claws.

Regard it as a opportunity to improve your German or French

Well i accept what you say re Amazon.com and will try again later but the last twice i reied to get a DVD they let me go through the whole process and then when it came to picking the destination country from the list - up came a message saying that they could not despatch to that address!!
I have had DVDs from Amazon.de OK. The solution over the language is easy.

All the Amazon pages irrespective of the country are more or less identical. Go as if to buy something from Amazon.co.uk and as you go through each page print out a copy. When you come to "order goods" you can delete the item which empties your basket.

File the pages away for future reference and comparison if using one of the foreign sites. Don't know that this would work very well with Japan!!

Is this maybe Amazon Marketplace rather than Amazon proper? I sell on Amazon and don't sell dvds internationally because I've had so much hassle on eBay with people who don't check the regions and ignore the information in the listing and then complain that they can't play the dvd. So I can understand why US sellers might not sell outside Region 1.

Did you say you were sending it to the UK, or to Scotland?
