Default North Sea Hijack

A film about the hijacking of a North Sea Oil Rig, starring Roger Moore in a very peculiar role as a women hating, cat and embroidery loving, private agent who has a private army "ready" for such an incident. The script is dire Moore is out of character (perhaps) and the swedish accents of the crew almost comical.
Despite all this it is curiously likeable.
The question is what was the point of making this film?

Moore appeared in 3 action/adventure adaptations for the same director so my guess would be it was a deal struck off the back of the Bond films.

I don't think North Sea Hijack is really that bad given its almost TVM production values, and the plot (blackmailing baddie with explosives) was the staple diet of most action-adventure films for next few decades.

Reminds me a bit of Lew Grade production.

Musically, it was written by a Welsh composer called Michael J Lewis.

He's little known - even for film music fans - but he's pretty good.

I enjoyed Anthony Perkins playing the psycho gang leader. Maybe not the complete Norman Bates but head and shoulders above Micheal Parks panto villian.

It was quite entertaining to see Moore tackle a kind of James Robertson Justice role, and I think he carried it off pretty well.

I remember him muttering venomous remarks such as: "I like cats. And I don't like people who don't!"with a conviction he rarely mustered for his bland Bond outings.

Not a bad romp. I much preferred the book "Esther, Ruth and Jennifer".

Got to agree with DB7, it DOES feel and look like a Lew Grade affair, shot similarly to "Raise The Titanic". Perhaps Moore tried for the Dirk Pitt look?
