David Swift, also well known as the newsreader Henry Davenport in Drop the Dead Donkey.
But less well known is that he's the brother of Clive Swift, the much put upon Mr. Richard Bucket (pronounced Bouquet) in Keeping Up Appearances

I haven't a single 'Greatest', but:
Il Gattopardo
The Red Shoes
Die Nibelungen (2 parts, Fritz Lang)
Andrei Rublev
The Queen of Spades (Dickinson)
Oberst Redl
cover a few bases. No particular order.

No, just 2! ;-D

I'm also inclined to add the Lord of the Rings trilogy, but am reluctant to add anything post-2000, however good, as I think it takes a longer passage of time to be sure that a film stands up as an 'all-time great'. Definitely among my genre classics already, though.

ermmm........I think it must be 'Once Upon a Time in America' whose theme for some reason, always brings tears to my eyes.

......and a special mention for 'The Happiest Days of Your Life'

Sand, but not RANDOM HARVEST? I love a lot of aspects of that film. I like the construction, where we 'meet' Greer as his secretary, and are left wondering, "Wait - same guy, same woman - why aren't they 'together'?" And only later do we get her explanation.

I have to admit RANDOM appeals to my Godzilla-like genre of "Please check all Realistic Beliefs and Expectations at the door before entering..." films. But I suspect a good many men had Greer Garson crushes, and I KNOW women had Ronald Colman crushes.

Well, yes, of course. I do so love that film.... I should have put it up there..

Maybe I've watched 'Sleepless in Seattle' a few too many times where the blokes have a giggle at the women's reaction to 'An Affair to Remember' .............
which is another of my favs... <gg>

I too love this film - and James Hilton's novel. Interestingly (well, fairly...) the construction of the book is quite different to the film. The film's opening scenes in the mental hospital, and the escapee meeting Miss Garson are three quarters of the way through the book.
