Just watched home taped version of "triple echo" with ollie and glenda jackson - but timer cock-up meant that tape finished before the end of film !!

I got up to where ollie and psychopathic red caps were tracking down glenda's "sister". They kicked 'her' down a hill and generally beat 'her' up.

    What happens next please???

    Hi Jim

Damn tape deck, you were seconds from the end.

      Spoiler:
The 'sister' was (after a good kicking - as you said) taken off to the army land rover to be taken back to base. The 'sister' being awol as you know. As they approach - Glenda prompty leans out the window with the (recently repaired) shooter and blows said 'sister' away!.

I have a question posted on here somewhere asking why she did that. I just couldn't work it out and it was bugging me.

AS H. E. BATES HAS POPPED HIS CLOGS, I DON'T SUPPOSE WE SHALL EVER KNOW. UNLESS WE CONTACT GLENDA JACKSON!!!

    Jim and RobWaz...

like you i was confused a tad by the ending.
      Spoiler:

...the two reasons i could think of was that she knew that the Oliver Reid character would really rough the Brian Deacon character up...maybe beat him to death so she was maybe putting him out of his misery. The second reason was that the Oliver Reid character had remarked that she was pretty despicable sheltering an AWOL whilst her own husband was a Japanese POW. Maybe in her own way she 'came to her senses' by killing him she would suffer doubly, because she had killed a man she loved, and would face the death sentance herself.

Anyway, strange little film, not overly sure if I enjoyed it or not but any film with Glenda Jackson is always worth watching, and Brian Deacon did make a very attractive woman!

You could be right Just Jane (did you know that there is a Lancaster Bomber named after you?).

My sister in law reads a lot and has read the novel by H. E. Bates and reckons the same as you. So there it is!

    Thanks to you all. thumbs_u

    The Triple Echo

Ollie originally rejected the script as it called for him to kiss a man dressed as a woman - but the kiss was removed and Ollie agreed.

There is however, a great scene were Ollie finds that the woman he's been chasing is in fact a man...

Look out too for Gavin Richards (the original Capt. Bertorelli in 'Allo 'Allo) and Jenny Lee Wright (a Benny Hill regular)

I always remember that scene - which scarred me slightly watching it as a teenager - when Ollie is trying to get his wicked way and his soldier mate is having it away with another girl and shouts over "How's yours mate? Mine's like liquid velvet." At least, I'm pretty sure that's what he says.

    A great, great film.

      Spoiler:

Also, just before we see Alice ascending the stairs with the gun, there is a brilliant shot of her sitting in despair, a woman who has lost her Husband, her faithful dog and now her wartime love interest. Don't forget Deacons character had said the he felt totally imprisoned earlier, at which Alices' reaction was one of total betrayal. I just think the shooting was her way of ending everything - it was all too heartbreaking.

When you watch Triple Echo for the first time the ending is a shock - but I think you're right in surmises above.
      Spoiler:
The 'sister' would most probably be tortured and/or murdered and so shooting 'her' was an act of mercy ... but also ensuring the eventual ending for Jackson's character that she desired.

Marvellous performances by Jackson, Reed and Deacon, incidentally.
