Having just read that Jack Wilde is to have his tongue removed through cancer, and of course his role in Oliver was highlighted, prompted me to ask about another Mark Lester/Jack Wilde film.

I remember seeing it at the cinema many, many, many years ago,but I can't remember much about it apart from the two boys fighting over Tracey Hyde.

Who else was in it and whatever happened to Tracey Hyde.

    MarkyB,

this maybe of interest to you,http://www.tracyhyde.net/

ive been intrigued about this film for some time,i have never seen it personally,i get the impression it is well liked by many.

I decided i might speculate, take a risk and buy the dvd off the site above but,$50 is a bit steep shocked2 for a copy, about £27-28 and who is profiting from it!? scold for a film ive never seen i declined

    cheers Ollie

If you are over 35 years old, probably you know this famous movie "Melody" in 1971, as known as S.W.A.L.K. (Sealedwith a loving kiss.)

By the way, I heard some one saw a scene that Melody and Daniel met on a pedestrian Crossing, it was like several years later of the Melody.

Melody(Tracy Hyde) and Daniel(Mark Lester) were around 18-20 years old.

Is anyone familior with this scene?

I think there is no continuation of this movie, Melody. there is no continuation or part2.

But are there any possibility that this drama was broadcasted on TV?

Definitely been on the beeb during the last seven or eight years, I remember watching it on a sunny afternoon when I should have been decorating.

I always remember the lines, 'I want to go to the pictures' I said, he said 'There's pictures on the wall!' ' I mean moving pictures!' I said. 'I'll make 'em bloody move' he said, and threw his boot at em.

    Roy Kinnear I think.

I remember they also showed 'Term of trail' the same week, another great film.

The "pedestrian crossing scene" is probably an internet rumour unless Mark and Tracy were guests on a show some years ago and did a sketch together.

In 1994, Mark and Tracy did re-enact the scene from "Melody" where they share the apple in the cemetery on a reunion show made for Japanese TV. Apparently, Jack Wild wrote a script and was planning to direct and produce a sequel but it never came to pass. If you go to Melody Reunion DVD or http://8store.8thman.com/classtv.html you can purchase the VCD which also includes the 1999 reunion.

You can see the re-enactment of the cemetery scene at about 5:53 in this clip.

why isn't this flick released on DVD ? Obviously there's some demand for it ? Much less well known flicks get released all the time and you'd think this one would get plenty of gushy press coverage. So why not ?

Amongst the licensing problems there is the Bee Gees music which is one of the problems (not because the music is bad it is not ) they will not give clearence for it to be issued.

So was the music only licensed for a limited time, or was it only licensed for a cinema release ?

I think it is a case of who owns the film outright.

Well the film has been legally released in Japan on a remastered, widescreen DVD with producer David Putnam's endorsement, so obviously the legal problems aren't that overwhelming.

Maybe no one thinks that it is worth releasing in Britain or America, despite the fact that it is set in Britain, stars two of the most famous child stars of the 60's and a virtual who's who of British character actors of that time.

It's one of my favourite films, and it has haunted me since I first saw it in 1970. It's a perfect snapshot of childhood in the late 60's and early 70's . The scenes of the school disco (girls in hotpants, trendy teachers and lots of orange squash to drink) still send a shudder of recognition through me 40 years later.

Given the sort of stuff that IS released on DVD, presumably because someone, somewhere, thinks it will make money, it has always been an utter mystery to me why this one remains largely unavailable.

Thank god for www.Amazon.co.jp, is all I can say.

Great picture, faginsgirl ... but who is cropped out top right? Probably Jack.

Blimey, Mark Lester has had a sad couple of years, losing Jack Wild and now Michael Jackson. He's appeared on TV quite a lot in the last week, including a Live interview on This Morning, and looks extremely young for 50 (51 next Saturday).

I remember this film being one of ITV's Monday Matinees, donkey's years ago, and should make an effort to see it on YouTube.

Found this at Wikipedia: Melody (soundtrack).

I have Melody Fair on a 4CD Bee Gees compilation. A nice song, but only a hit in Japan.
