Croupier star Clive Owen is poised to be unveiled as the new James Bond next year, according to reports. Current 007 star Pierce Brosnan is reportedly planning to announce the next Bond film will be his last in a press conference in January or February. According to British tabloid the Daily Record, movie bosses are expected to announce Clive, 38, will take over the role - after being recommended by 50-year- old Pierce. An insider says, "Clive's the one. There have been rumors about Clive, but these rumors are getting louder and louder now. No one at the top will come out and admit it, but the claims it's Clive are coming from different sources within EON, who make the Bond films. Seeing Clive in Croupier brought him to the Bond maker's attention. He looks good in a tuxedo and has that edge which makes him attractive to the ladies, but liked by the guys. He's not hugely known, but has done some good films and is at least a name people recognize."

I liked Clive Owen in Greenfingers, and I am looking forward to seeing him in Beyond Borders with Angelina Jolie, but I don't see him as James Bond. He lacks a sophisticated wit and polished flair that epitomize Bond, to my mind. Owen has a rather earthy gloom to him rather like a Thomas Hardy character with a voice to match. Even he has poo-pooed his getting the role, and I agree. The closest Owen has come to a JB look was his 1 minute car ads, but those were all sunglasses and photography.

    Cheers,

I heard a while back that Clive was offered the role. However, i have since heard that the role has been offered to Hugh Jackman with Brosnan completing two more movies before Hugh takes over.

Well.....from a woman's eyes, Hugh Jackman looks fan-tas-tic. Great body. Great voice and belts songs in "Oklahoma." And he can act.

Jackman has the energy and witty, flirty eyes every woman wants to see in the next James Bond.

    Cheers,

Another Australian 007? Who can sing and is called HUGH. Please no. Can you imagine releasing that cocktail plus ego into the world. Brosnan dos'nt cut it for me as Bond but better the devil you know (even having to listen to Humm, yes after most of he's lines) than an all singing, windsurfing, twinkle-eyed Aussie.

Another name, and one thrown into the ring by John Cleese is Jack Davenport.

You might have seen him in The Talented Mr. Ripley or more recently as the British officer in Pirates of the Caribbean.

Can't be any dafter than an invisable Aston Martin.

No, no, Hackett. "Flirty eyes" ..not "twinkle-eyed"! You're thinking of Santa. :)

Jackman is scheduled to play Peter Allen, so he may be not be free to play 007. But I will stand by my chimney just in case.

    Cheers,

More From McGregor on Possibly Playing 007 Source: Chicago Sun-Times Monday, December 22, 2003

Big Fish star Ewan McGregor tells the Chicago Sun-Times that he's not shaken or stirred about rumors that he'll be the next James Bond.

"I think about this the same way I thought about the rumors that I might do 'Star Wars.' I always said with that one, too, that I'd have to wait and see if they really wanted me and how I felt about it at the time." He adds, "What would worry me about Bond is that it does seem to require an enormous commitment in the same way that 'Star Wars' doesn't because those movies were so far apart, whereas Bond seems to be closer together. ... I also notice Pierce Brosnan spending a lot of the year promoting Bond films. So, I would worry about that because I'd have less time to do other films."

    Dougray Scott wins Bond role

Dougray Scott is to be the new James Bond, according to the Sunday Mirror.

He's reportedly beaten rivals including Eric Bana, Clive Owen and Ioan Gruffud to take over the role from Pierce Brosnan.

Scott, 38, will be the seventh actor to play Bond on the big screen and is set to make his first appearance in the 23rd Bond film, due for release next year.

Bosses at Eon Productions chose Dougray after deciding they wanted a return to a brooding Bond in the mould of Sir Sean Connery.

One source said: "Bosses believe Dougray will be the perfect Bond."

The Scot won his role after discussions with Barbara Broccoli, producer of the long-running spy series. She wants to return 007 to his film roots.

A source revealed: "Producers have been eager to take Bond back to the broody and sexy figure that Sean was so brilliant at.

"Obviously it's not possible for Sean to return at his age, so they have been looking for a young actor with similar characteristics."

Brosnan announced in July that he would not be appearing as Bond again, saying: "That's it. I've said all I've got to say on the world of James Bond."

Surely if Bond is REALLY to return to his roots then there is only one man who can play him...

There is only one man who can portray the authentic Scottishness required...

One who embodies the True face of Scotland....

    "See youse Moneypenny...."

By Scottish standards....cool, calm and sophisticated....

This is going to make a great movie....

    Threep.

The last film I saw him in was Ripley's Game with John Malkovich and Ray Winstone. He played a terminally ill man prepared to carry out assassinations for vast sums of money. It was released without gaining much attention but I enjoyed it more than The Talented Mr. Ripley.

Cheers Threep.....Gregor Fisher always makes me laugh and when I scrolled to the picture, I laughed so loud that the boss said "what's the joke?". I had to hurriedly close the screen and pretend that I'd thought of something funny!!

I don't think he was convinced though!

Has Dougray Scott got the part then,or was it just another media specualtion. If he hasn't I'm still hoping for Clive Owen,Mark Strong or Colin Salmon.

Brosnan's not our Bond, says Campbell

    Posted on Wed, 5-Oct-2005

Pierce Brosnan's days as chesty MI6 agent James Bond are over, "Casino Royale" director Martin Campbell confirms.

Though rumours were kicking about that the sacked 007 would be asked back for the new film, mainly because they couldn't find a fitting proxy, the film's director says otherwise.

Campbell, who directed Brosnan in "Goldeneye" (1995), told JamesBond007.net, that Brosnan's definitely not being asked back to play Bond.

There's only four candidates for the role of the suave-super agent, says Campbell, and they're Sam Worthington, Henry Cavill, Daniel Craig and Goran Visnjic.

The four actors were tested last week and in "less than three weeks", the studio will reveal who they've chosen.

Campbell has also revealed he's looking for a Frenchman to play lead villain, Le Chiffre.

Great news. With the exception of 'GoldenEye' the Brosnan Bonds have been awful. Let's hope that 'Casino Royale' will open a happier chapter in the history of the Bond films.

Elsewhere in the forum people have been berating Mr Owen for being such a wooden actor, and based on the film and TV performances I've seen so far, I'd agree!

Personally I think the role has to be someone who can be convincing as a senior Royal Naval officer and play the role of a gentleman in the old fashioned sense of the word ie. someone with charisma, charm and class. Clive Owen? No, sorry! He's gruff, surly looking, has a terrible speaking voice and can only play Clive Owen.

Sounds ideal for Sid James - apart from one slight drawback.
