I would like to see them remake the 1965 thriller The Collector which starred Terence Stamp and Samanta Eggar.
Also the 1971 Brian Clemen's thriller And Soon The Darkness.
Slow burning mood pieces rather than wall to wall violence and mayhem..

Speaking personally, I can't see how they'd improve on either of these. I'd like somebody to have another go at STRAIGHT ON TILL MORNING ; to me, this has always been a film which was way ahead of its time and utterly out of step with the Hammer canon. I think it really could stand up to modernising as the central character really is a modern psycho/sociopath.

As to the comments posted from Sinclair McKay earlier in this thread, wel - I almost bought his book. Glad I didn't now. Firstly, get your facts right : Bray Studios haven't been bought out, only the Hammer trading name and back catalogue were sold. The studio is a whole different commercial concern.

Secondly his murmurings about certification and now vs. then show a distinct inability to put the films he has written about into their proper context. Back when it was first released THE MUMMY had a certification relevant to the social situation of that time...

My favourite Hammer film is "She" with Chris Lee and Peter Cushing, good old Bernard Cribbins, Andre Morrel and Ursula Andress looking as gorgeous as she has ever been. It seems like they really pushed the boat out on this film in terms of production values with real hot desert locations abroad and not Camber sands in Kent!! I liked the music and the whole romantic notion of eternal life, not a typical Hammer horror I know but I've always liked this film since seeing it as a lad and it was usually on TV in the afternoon rather than after hours.

Default Jimmy Sangster

I'm reading a very interesting book at the moment - Inside Hammer - by Jimmy Sangster.

Sangster did all sorts of things for Hammer, including scriptwiting, and he has some very interesting stories to tell about the making of the films he was involved in.

Default Hammer Films

Hammer Films are in the process of making a film called Beyond the Rave
sounds very odd to me

The title sounds rather lame to me, I'm afraid. I'd be glad if quality Horror is produced (like 'Dog Soldiers' or 'The Descent'), however I'd be surprised if quality is being aimed for. I really would like to be awfully wrong, but that title just reeks of me being correct.

I don't mind gore in movies so long as the movie is not all about gratuitous gore. If its only about slash and rend... I'd sooner watch something else.

What about Dracula Prince of Darkness'? quite a number of horror scenes in the castle finalizing with the guest hanging upside down having his throat cut!

Hammer don't cut it in this modern day and age. Witness Dracula AD 1972 and the Satanic Rites of Dracula. They were at there best when the films were set in days gone by. Spooky old castles, buxom women, Christopher Lee or Peter Cushing, and of course Michael Ripper! Hammer wouldn't be Hammer without him! I'd love to see Hammer making a come back and not before time. They have a great name when it comes to horror or sci-fi......

Time to keep your appointment with the Wicker Man...
